The cake was so large that it took two galley staff to carry it. It was a perfect cake replica of the Astraeus made to scale. She’d spent at least an hour with the galley lead working out the math on the proportions. She was amazed that they were able to get it onto the table without dropping it.
Rosek-Skyfire: ::raises her voice:: Attention, all hands! The Captain has an announcement!
Mei’konda: Yes, ah… news about the ship. She’s not going to be scrapped. I received confirmaation from Starfleet logistics that Astraeus is going in for an additional maiintenance overhaul followed by a second shakedown. We’ll see what haappens after that, but I wouldn’t count the shiip out of active service just yet. That’s all for now, everyone. Please, enjoy the food.
Tim was silent until after the captain’s announcement, his eyes glued to the cake. He didn’t know what to make of the cake at first. It almost reminded him, in some way, of the metalwork he did for the new year’s party after they’d brought the Chin’toka in for repairs after stopping a rogue star. However, this was edible, and not a piece of sculpture. Still, the detail work was incredible. And made to scale.
Alentonis: That is some cake.
Any: Response
Alentonis: Well, I am mildly curious what sort of filling it contains.
Mei’konda leaned over toward Tim, holding up the plate.
Mei’konda: I becaame quite fond of coconut cake with buttercream frostiing while I was at the Academy on Earth. I should maake a point to get a little more of it.
There was a pause as the captain turned his attention once again toward the group of assembled officers.
Mei’konda: Actually, everyone, just one more piece of business. I waanted to confirm for you all what some of you have been thinking already. I’m going to be transferring to Earth and acceptiing a promotion to Commodore.
Alentonis: Will you be returning to the academy, then?
Any: Response
Mei’konda nodded slightly in response.
Mei’konda: Yes, Starfleet Academy. I’ll be one of the officers teaching tactics and diplomatic techniques in command school. It’s… going to be different, and while I will miss you all, it’s something I’m looking forward to.
Mei paused, eyes once again tracking through the lounge, at all of the familiar faces.
Mei’konda: Starfleet and the Federation are the most importaant things in my lives. They have been for my entire adult life, and… I know that out here on the frontier, with all of you, Starfleet will still have its very best looking out for us. For everyone. And… I waanted to thank you all for everything you’ve done. From the bottom of my heart.
Any: Responses
Alentonis: It’s been a pleasure to serve with you as well, sir.

Tim was munching on his cake when Renaie made their way over to him. He took a bite of it as they spoke to him.
Shortrith: Commander, I realised I never thanked you for your help with the surgery. I just wanted to do so because your help was beyond invaluable, and it was very much appreciated.
He nodded slowly and swallowed.
Alentonis: Not a problem. I felt very much out of my element, though.
Shortrith: What do you mean?
Alentonis: Well, I’m a metallurgist. Biology is very different.
Shortrith: Response
Alentonis: Oh yes. You did phenomenal work, Doctor. I am very grateful for your involvement.
