As Lael called the crew together in front of where Mei stood with the boxes his yeoman had brought in, calm blue eyes fixed on the officers as they approached. From several meters away from the bonfire so that its heat or light wouldn’t be bothersome, he smiled, and spoke up once they had quieted and focused their attention on him.

Mei’konda: Hello, everyone. Paardon me for interruptiing your leisure. I promise, this won’t taake long. With all of you here together, it seemed a good moment to thaank you all for your hard work in our laast mission. It was… chaotiic, to say the least, but we gathered some incredible scientiific information, we made first contact with a new raace, and we averted an armed contaact.

He paused for a moment, considering.

Mei’konda: After Frontier Day, I think a little discovery and exploraation is just what we needed. Life in Starfleet is never prediictable, but your traaining and experience have prepaared you well. For your actions over that day, I’m going to taake a few minutes to recognize all of you. I just want you to remember. This is not simply a new piece of jewelry to displaay on your dress uniform.

His eyes roamed over the gathered officers as he continued.

Mei’konda: This is an indicaation of your service. You enbody the ideals of the Federation, and you’ve shown how hard you will work for your crewmaates, your ship, and for me. Your senior staff, myself, and Starfleet Command want to make sure you know that this is seen and understood. So. First and foremost, this entire crew has been awarded the First Contact Ribbon for our meeting wiith the beings on the planet and the sphere, such as it was. Next, Lael, Lieutenant Caldwell, Lieutenant Tam, Ensign Wright, and Doctor Harford, would you pleaase join me up here?

Mei’konda: For your work eiither in estaablishing good relationships with the being on the plaanet or in helping prevent the situaation in orbiit from escalatiing into armed conflict, you’re being awarded the Diplomacy Ribbon. Starfleet Command has awaarded this to me as well, along with the Legion of Merit, for my… dubiious decision to pilot Astraeus into the atmosphere to assist with the rescue of our landing paarties. :: He chuckled. :: With myself out of the waay, congratulations all of you.

A starship cannot function without its Operations depaartment, and Tim, you may have begun your career in Starfleet with a significant focus in one field, but your skills have broadened significaantly over the years. Mei’konda: Additionally, Esa, you proviided us with some very interestiing and creatiive ideas for solutions to the problems we faaced. Whether we ended up choosing to go with them or not… or had the time to, given how suddenly we found ourselves outsiide the nebula, I want you to know how much appreciate your out-of-the-box thiinking. I’m awardiing you the Superior Support Ribbon. Thank you for everything you do, Commander.

Mei’konda: Tacticaal is not an easy assignment, eiither on the ground or on the Bridge. You both performed exceptionally well under difficult circumstaances, and because of that, I am awardiing you both the Good Conduct Ribbon. Thank you both for your serviice.

Mei’konda glanced down toward the two boxes on the hover cart next to him. He never especially enjoyed handing these out, and decided to say so. 

Mei’konda: Lieutenants Ral and Tam, front and center.

As the two made their way up, he smiled wanly at them.

Mei’konda: I never care to give Purple Hearts, because I do not like to see my people get hurt, but I’m awardiing one to both of you today. Starfleet officers are occaisonally subject to pain and injury. You’ll haave our full support as you both recover, whether that recovery be entirely physical, or emotional as well.

Mei’s eyes drifted back and forth between two Human men. Speaking to them both at the same time was almost becoming a habit. 

Mei’konda: Lieutenants, you both haad the opportunity to lead teams, and you both did excellently under adverse condiitions. I’m awardiing you, Lieutenant Caldwell, both the Leadership Excellence Ribbon and a Captain’s Commendation for your work. Mister Matthews, I’ve approved the Leadershiip Excellence Ribbon for you as well, along with the Starfleet Medal of Commendation. I want you both to know how much I value your presence on this ship, and your contriibutions to this crew.

With a smile at Matthews, Mei shifted his attention once more to Caldwell.

Mei’konda: Additionally, your efforts on your shuttle played a big part in ensuriing Lieutenant Tam got back on board as quiickly as possible. I’m awardiing you the Silver Lifesaving Ribbon. Good work, Mister Caldwell.

Mei’konda: Doctor Harford, pleaase join me up front.

Mei’konda: Doctor, you’ve stepped up in a big waay in our medical depaartment. You’ve had a lot on your shoulders, given our relative laack of staffing since Frontier Day. Still, you did an incredible job treatiing our Lanaxan guests, and ensuring that our injured crew members are well on their way to recovery. I’m awardiing you the Silver Lifesaving Ribbon as well, a Captain’s Commendation, and finally, the Trauma Support Advocate award. Thank you for your dedicaated service.

That had been the last of the award boxes. Mei had two left now, and he enjoyed doing these ones himself.

Mei’konda: Doctor, remain up here for a moment. Lieutenant Tam, please step forwaard once more.

Mei’konda: Divya Tam, Alix Harford, your serviice has been nothing short of exemplaary aboard this ship since you both reported on board. It would be an injustice for me to not recognize that. And it is not only for your saakes.

He glanced back and forth between the two.

Mei’konda: With great ability comes additional responsibility, responsiibility that I bestow upon you both because I know you can handle it. Divya Tam, it is my pleaasure to promote you to the rank of full Lieutenant. Congraatulations.

Tam: Response

Reaching forward, he pressed the box which contained a single full pip inside of it into her hand, shook her other one, then smiled. He turned his attention then back to Harford.

Mei’konda: Doctor Harford, as I said before, your performaance has far exceeded what I expect of an Ensign aboard this ship. Thus, it would be illogical for me to keep you in that position. I am graanting you the rank of Lieutenant, junior grade. Effectiive immediately.

Harford: Response

Handing the Doctor the box which contained her new hollow pip, Mei offered her his hand to shake, nodded in approval, stepped back, then raised his voice.

Mei’konda: Thaat will be everything, everyone. Thaank you for lending me some of your tiime. Pleaase, get back to the festiivities, and enjoy yourselves!
