Naturally, she’d been nervous about finally exercising the diplomatic skills she’d gained from her training, but the situation had turned out better than she’d hoped. Start small and work her way up. At least she was coming back to her position as Mission Specialist with more diplomatic experience than when she’d filled the spot before.

She smiled as she looked down on the man who had become like a father figure to her. Despite the fact that they weren’t very far apart in age, she’d come to admire the man. Thus why it wasn’t a hardship to return to serving under him. She still had much to learn. Her time on Shemsh had shown her that.

Mei’konda: Lieutenant Commander Lael Rosek. It’s very good to see you agaiin. Welcome aboard. Doctor Skyfire, it’s very good to see you agaain. And you too, Maddy!

Rosek-Skyfire: ::chuckles:: Rosek-Skyfire.

It was a gentle correction, punctuated by a loving pat on her husband's shoulder. She knew Mei was well aware of the name change, even if she did still go by her maiden name on duty. It was likely that was the reason why he’d addressed her as he had.

Skyfire: Aye,.it is good to be back, sir. You remember our son, Kadain? :: He smiled also at Serala in greeting. :: Jolan’tru, Commander. A pleasure to see you once more as well.

Her gaze flickered to the blonde haired girl beside her and she smiled fondly, running a hand through the girl’s blonde hair. Maddy was 13 now and while she was still for the most part respectful and obedient to her parents’ wishes, she was starting to enter into that moody phase where she sought her own space and time alone. If she and Chythar hadn’t raised their daughter the way they had, she would be more worried about what the future held.

Moody she could handle. She’d been moody at Maddy’s age. And more than a little rebellious.

God help them.

Maddy: ::smiles:: Captain Mei’konda. Good to see you again.

Serala: Response

She smiled fondly as she watched her young son interact with her mentor. They’d spoken through video calls during their absence, but this was one of the rare opportunities to interact in person.

It was a shame that the Caitian didn’t have children himself. He would make a good father.

Mei’konda: Of course I remember you, Kadain. Welcome aboard!

The smaller child reached his hand toward the captain’s extended paw, curious and inquisitive.

Kadain: Tranta?

C. Skyfire: :: smirks :: He thinks you’re a thrantath, Captain. An animal native to Betazed.

Rosek: ::laughs:: At least he’s not latching onto his Captain Twibble. ::smirks at Mei’konda:: I swear I had nothing to do with it. He saw one on the shelf back on Shemsh and hasn’t let go of it since. I’m stunned we were able to pry it out of his hands for transport.

Maddy: ::rolls her eyes:: Dad had to convince him it wouldn’t survive transport with the rest of us. ::smiles fondly at her brother::

C. Skyfire: It’s a chore to explain to a one-year-old, princess. Just wait til he sees the Astraeus pet collection…

Serala: Response

She smiled, accepting Mei’s offered hand.

Mei’konda: I’m glaad that you were both avaiilable to fill the available positions on the ship. We’re doing some personnel shuffling on board. Speakiing of… Ensign Kris Fianna, I assume?

Fianna: ::She doesn't move yet from the transporter pad, instead adopting a formal posture.:: Aye, Ensign Kris Fianna, requesting permission to come aboard, sir.

Mei’konda: Response

Fianna: Aye, Captain. Thank you for having me. I–

Kadain clapped excitedly, seemingly not aware of what serious business was taking place around him.

It wasn’t hard to miss the new Ensign’s reaction to Maddy and Kadain, but Lael couldn’t quite determine if it was discomfort or something from the officer’s past that prompted the reaction. The only glimmer that Lael had managed to obtain from the Ensign’s file was that they were an only child.

Well, until she got to know the officer, she would given them the benefit of the doubt.

Chythar nodded slightly and took Kaidain’s hand as they stepped off the transporter pad.

C. Skyfire: Sorry about that, sir. We’ll get out of your way. :: then, to his son. :: Come along, lad. Time to go.

Serala: Responses

Mei’konda: Response

Fianna: It's quite alright. Captain, perhaps we can continue elsewhere? Maybe at a different time, if necessary?

Mei’konda: Response

Lael exchanged a glance with her husband.

Rosek-Skyfire: ~ Maybe we should leave them to it. We can talk with him some other time. ~

C. Skyfire: ~ Agreed. Definitely should invite him for dinner some time. ~

She nodded, turning her attention back to their Captain.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::smiles:: We’ll leave you to it, sir. It’s nearly Kadain’s naptime and he is due for his favorite lunch.

Kadain: ::claps and laughs:: Nuggies!

Rosek-Skyfire: ::laughs and turns to the new Ensign:: Ensign, I look forward to getting to know you better. But for now–mom duty calls.

C. Skyfire: Pleasure to meet you, Ensign. Looking forward to our paths crossing again.

The doctor started to lead their son out of the transporter room and into the corridor, followed closely by his wife and daughter.

((OOC: Thought we’d give Mei a chance to get to know the new Ensign. We can get together later.))
