((Main Engineering, Mid Level — USS Artemis-A))
Ares’ body was nearly unrecognisable. The burns had branded his body— ravaging his skin and searing away whatever had gotten in the way. Half of his body looked like one continuous lump of scarred flesh and if not for the puckered line that acted as a mouth, she could barely tell where his chin began and his neck ended.
Every glimpse she had peaked of his back felt like looking at the body's cross-section, charred bones and muscles had sat exposed to the outside world and they shined as if weeping for the dried chunks of skin, that which was caught in the eruption of plasma. They sat amidst the chunks of now solid metal that had pierced through his body, cauterizing every entry point before a single drop of blood had even been spilled. It was a wonder nothing had struck his spine.
A.Dakora: Do it. ::He coughed, grasping at his raw throat.:: Shoot me! Get on with it, then!
Hallia trained her phaser on the now crippled intruder, barely feathering her finger on the trigger. She hesitated. There was a part of her that wanted to shoot him, that wanted to see his lifeless body sprawled against the deck, but she fought that feeling.
The Yelikan wrapped her mind in endless void, doing everything she could to give him a chance to stand down.
Yellir: Don’t try to move too much— you’ll worsen the nerve damage.
He stumbled as he pushed off the console. He walked like the blast had him hamstrung, Ares looked like he could almost fall over.
A.Dakora: I can’t go back empty-handed. This can’t have been for nothing. I… ::He touched where his right eye should’ve been and felt only a singed slippery mess.:: I’ll never fly again.
She shook her head as she followed his gaze and tried once again.
Yellir: The sooner you surrender the sooner we can treat you. Now, tell me exactly what you’re planning to do to our ship, and the locations of your officers.
He shambled towards her like he had risen from the grave. Each step buckled under his weight, with her taking a hesitant step back.
A.Dakora: You wouldn’t help! Y-you forced our hand. We were taking this ship back with us and we were going to kill every last Shint with it. Now. Now you’ve killed us. An entire galaxy will fall. ::He took another step.: Just do it already, Lieutenant.
Yellir: You look like you’re in a lot of pain, Major. It wouldn’t be difficult to give you a nice dose of hydrocortilene to take the edge off. Of course, you can refuse treatment. But if you don’t cooperate, I can’t guarantee you’ll live without proper assistance.
Hallia sweetened the expression on her face, almost as if she was begging to help him— begging him to give her any other option. Her chest rose and fell as she sucked in whatever breath she could grab onto. But the scent she caught was nauseatingly sweet— with the touch of burning hair filling her nostrils. The smell of his charred body was so rich that it had nearly blanketed her tongue. The Yelikan swallowed— feeling a gurgling rumble deep in her throat.
A.Dakora: One day, you’ll see. ::Another step.:: When you find yourself in my shoes. You’ll understand. You’ll realize we had no choice.
She lifted her chin in the air and looked him dead in the eye once again. It was like talking to a brick wall— even in his current state, he wouldn’t budge.
Yellir: You may have our faces, but we don’t share your weaknesses.
He stopped moving, and so did she— but he looked as if he was ready to leap forward. Hallia had shook her head frantically, short of begging him not to her words were a slurry of no’s and pleas for him to stop.
A.Dakora::Quietly:: For the Commonwealth.
Before she could even measure an action, Hallia flinched as he dove forward. A blast of blinding cyan had flashed from her weapon, filling the room and then— nothing. As sure as a blink, it was done. His body slumped against the floor, silencing any noise with a resounding ‘thud’.
She didn’t dare step forward. Her weapon clattered to the floor as she got the full view of his back and finally, the nausea had overtaken every sense in her mind. It was both hammer and chisel to the numbness she had clung to, the cold void she had used to put her feelings aside and soon she was overrun by the frigid cold that filled her veins. First, the dizziness came, then came the tears— and before she knew it she was retching over in a corner, fearful to even look at the motionless Dakora.
Her body shook as if her bones were dancing, unable to pull in even a single steady breath. She gripped the hair on top of her head, very nearly motioning to rip it from her scalp. Hallia’s mind was wave after wave of fear, and she could barely even see straight. The tears the blurred her vision stung her eyes even as she sealed them shut. Her wails were silenced with quiet whispers and murmurs. This all felt like a waking nightmare, and she desperately wanted to wake up.
As the feeling passed she still didn’t dare to look over her shoulder. Hallia had sought refuge in the warm blue lights of the warp core. And finally she had found the courage to use her commbadge.
Yellir: =/\= Yellir to security. I’ve—I’ve incapacitated Major Dakora, and retaken Engineering, I need him removed and—and a medical team to look over him. He’s badly wounded. =/\=
Her voice struggled barely above a hoarse whisper. Every word had fought to be spoken, Hallia felt like she had to squeeze every noise from her throat just for it to be heard. Each sound that came out of her mouth felt like it threatened to break into one continuous wail.
Savel/Any: =/\= Response? =/\=
Yellir: =/\= We’re on the mid-level— uh, deck... fifteen. Engineering’s been fortified for now, but I can let you in if you signal me when you get here. =/\=
