((Counselor’s Office - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))

Oh, how Vhysa’lia wished she could be down on the planet below. They had heard of Risa, of course (who hadn’t? Sometimes, it seemed that was all certain individuals talked about) during their short time so far in Starfleet, and to be stuck up here, working on the minutiae of reports was tantamount to torture, in their mind. It seemed like such a novel place to explore - something she’d never experienced back with her people - with all sorts of opportunities for adventure and excitement. At some point, they were going to get their hands on a horga’hn, and see where that took them…

But no, they had been stuck in their office for the past who-knew-how-long working to dot every “t” and cross every “i” in the books. Or the other way around. It had been hours and her head was starting to swim a little from the bureaucracy of it all - long-gone were the days where she had her own lab and could cut through this sort of red-tape like a plasma torch through a bulkhead. Not that they were going to bring that up as a complaint… Starfleet wasn’t likely to love having reminders about their past work in refining Kobali reproduction.

The sole bright spot in her day, however, was getting to meet a new patient. For all the gripes about PADDwork, Vhysa’lia did love getting work with people, as always. But the minutes kept plodding on and on as they poured over PADDs and waited for when they had scheduled the appointment…

A chime rang out from the door of the office, announcing that her patient had finally arrived. Vhysa’lia threw a smile on their face, brushing off some of the imagined dust that had settled on their shoulders from sitting and doing all this PADDwork for what had seemed like hours, and stood up, ready to welcome her in.

Vhysa’lia: Enter!

Lyara: Response

She struck out a hand, gesturing to the open seat with a little nod.

Vhysa’lia: I don’t believe we’ve had the chance to meet yet, ensign. My name is Vhysa’lia. I’ll respond to that, or Counselor, whichever you prefer. ::glancing at her PADD to ensure that she was recalling the name correctly:: Lyara Alroyo, correct? If I recall ::slight pause:: your species’ naming convention has your personal name following your family name?

Lyara: Response

That made sense - she’d seen a note explaining that in Solas’ files, but she wanted to get proper clarification first and foremost from her patient. It also helped break the ice a little, they hoped. Most people were… wary of the Kobali, as they’d experienced already aboard the ship, and showing interest in their patient’s cultures was one of the strategies that they tried to employ to somewhat lessen that. Alongside the odd joke or two, when appropriate.

Vhysa’lia: ::nodding, before sitting down across from her:: Thank you, I’ve worked with another Bajoran aboard this ship, but I wanted to make sure… What would you prefer I address you as?

Lyara: Response

They nodded, making a small note in their own files for future reference, before turning their PADD over on the desk, face-down. No distractions, she was here to talk to her patient, and get to the root of any issues she wanted to bring to the table. It felt more personal that way, shrinking the world around them from the wide universe to just that room, reachable only by combadge until all was said and done.

Vhysa’lia: So, you noted that you wanted to talk with someone in counseling about your recent mission… I’d like to hear more from you about your experience, and what exactly’s been troubling you regarding your encounter with the Suliban?

Lyara: Response
