((Sickbay - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))
Kyle Morgan might be new to the position as a temporary member of the senior staff, but he wasn't new to the Artemis crew, or to Captain MacKenzie's command style. The red-headed CO had little affinity for any actions that might be deemed excessive or wreckless, and Kyle was rightfully concerned that the new security officer's actions in the apartment building might be categorized as such. And so, he decided to offer her a bit of advice.
Morgan: I'm going to give you a piece of unsolicited advice, as someone who knows the captain better than pretty much anyone aboard: it's a fine line between heroism and recklessness, and it's important to know on which side of the line you fall.
Cole: ::nodding:: I understand …
He offered a smirk and raised his index finger.
Morgan: But it's also important not to try to anticipate what the captain might think of any given decision you make - oftentimes, you'll lose.
Cole: I would never try and guess what Captain McKenzie thinks. That’s a facet of command that’s
He offered a smirk, a slight shrug, and cheekily flicked his tricorder shut.
Morgan: So I guess the only question is: was getting stabbed worth it?
Cole: ::looking directly at Morgan:: Yes
Kyle smirked and cocked his head slightly, a skeptical look on his face.
Morgan: If you say so, but I think I'd try to avoid flirting with the line of life and death if it were me.
Cole: Once upon a time, I think I danced a little too close to that line. Before I… figured myself out. Back then, it was easy to confuse running toward danger with running from something. I thought if I kept proving myself, people would stop questioning who I was.”
She glanced down, flexing her hand unconsciously before continuing.
Cole: Now, I know better. I know who I am … I just needed the rest of the world to let me be her. So no, I’m not planning to cross that line again. But if it means saving someone else from it, I won’t hesitate to stand on it.
Morgan: ::nodding slowly, insistently:: And if may very well come to that, so long as you make sure you do so without negligence.
Cole: ::looking past the Doctor inquisitively:: Doctor are you aware there is a rock attached to the ceiling of your office?
He smiled and nodded, feigning enthusiasm.
Morgan: Actually, there are several rocks adorning various crevices of my office. You didn't put them there, did you?
Cole: Response
His smile relaxed, appearing more genuine this time.
Morgan: Good. I would have hated to violate my Hippocratic Oath today.
Cole: Response
Kyle smiled again, a bit perturbed by the ordeal.
Morgan: The great mystery of 2402, apparently. You know, if you fancy yourself some investigative work, technically we could consider this a breach of security protocol... given the access to sensitive records anyone who was in the office might have had...
Cole: Response
