Salkath: Ensign Kel. ::motioning to the seat across from him:: Do you have a moment? I will not keep you long if you are busy.

Solas had been making his way across the mezzanine when Commander Salkath’s summons broke him from his train of thoughts. He was sitting over a Kal-toh board. He had not been much of a Kal-toh player but he enjoyed games of all sorts, even if he lost.

Kel: Not at all sir, if anything I have too much free time on my hands these days.

Salkath took a moment to study him. The intent stare reminded him of his mother’s, deep and penetrating. It was always interesting to speak with other Vulcans.

Salkath: I witnessed you receive your commendation for your... travails during Frontier Day. ::nodding deferentially:: It was well received.

Solas glanced down at his Starfleet badge, briefly imagining it turning purple to reflect the ribbon he had received. Awkwardly, he cleared his throat, still not really feeling like he had deserved it.

Kel: Thank you, uh, sir. I’m just happy I got to make it out alive.

Salkath seemed to realize this was a touchy subject for Solas and gestured towards the Kal-toh pieces.

Salkath: Did you ever learn to play Kal-toh? My solitary game is failing spectacularly.

Solas would have let himself smile if he didn’t think it would give the senior Vulcan a heart attack.

Kel: Do I know how to play? Commander, I’m a born loser.

Salkath: Response.

Solas began to help Salkath set up the board and divide their pieces evenly between them. Solas then dramatically waved his hand and gave a sort of mock bow.

Kel: By all means, senior officers first.

The commander then observed the board and pondered his first move, something of a competitive glint in his eye as he finally prepared to face someone after who knew how many hours of solitary confuddlment.

Salkath: Response

Solas felt his lips tug as a smile, as he picked up his t’an rod.

Kel: Don’t worry commander, we’ll ruin the board yet.

Salkath: Response

((OOC: I don’t actually know if it’s called a board or not but I couldn’t think of a better word for it))

TAG/TBC :)
