(( Quark’s Bar, Promenade, Deep Space Nine ))

The Commanding Officer and Chief Engineer of the Artemis had shared stories of shore leave shenanigans and commiserated over a previous duty post they shared in common, on which the latter had stitched up a Nausicaan while drunk after a mosh pit experience gone bad. After Addison shared her experience on the Embassy of Duronis II, and then the Thor, she summarized the experience curtly.

MacKenzie: ::flatly:: It was a shitshow. I’d been recommended for the job to help turn things around, but that ship was heavy, and steering it was impossible.

Yellir: Well— think of it this way, if it wasn’t for such an unfavourable stopover, maybe neither of us would’ve been here now.

Addison nodded, a bit sarcastically, and offered the Yelikan a smirk.

MacKenzie: Oh, right. Destruction of the Resolution, and all the hazards lurking in the Borderlands.

Yellir: You know, it always could be worse. Imagine being cooped up on Jupiter Station, hell, even in the Delta Quadrant, at least on Duronis there’s some kind of floorshow.

MacKenzie: Well, for being on the edge of Romulan space, I didn’t expect there to be a gift shop… so I guess it wasn’t all that bad. (beat) I don’t know, though – have you ever been to Amity Station in the Delta Quadrant?

The Yelikan shook her head.

Yellir: No— can’t say I have. It seems a bit far from home for me. Is it any good?

Addison made an “ok” sign with one hand as she picked up her mug and took a swig.

MacKenzie: It’s a must-stop the next time you have enough leave to get to that corner of the galaxy. Their XO is a friend of mine, and the last time I was down that way, we engaged in some fun war games with Captain Rahman and some Hirogen who were looking to build better collaboration with the Federation.

Hallia took a long sip through the straw as Addison spoke.

Yellir: You certainly have a taste for trouble. I imagine this one went smoother than our war games ::chuckling::

Addison shrugged and offered another playful smirk.

MacKenzie: I know a good time when I see one.

The Chief Engineer grimaced into her cup, then returned the smirk.

Yellir: You know, for someone who handles captaincy quite well, you’re quite the troublemaker. I could stand to learn a lot from that.

Hallia grinned into her glass, and Addison saw that as an opportunity to bring up something she’d discovered during their last mission.

MacKenzie: I’m quite sure I have no idea what you’re talking about. (beat) Besides, you seem to have already adopted a troublesome streak yourself, jailbreaking that replicator…

The Yelikan’s eyes widened for a moment, obviously not thinking that Addison would remember the situation long enough to circle back to it, and would certainly forgive any trespasses, given that the replicator allowed them to survive.

Yellir: Err— whichever replicator could you mean, Captain?

MacKenzie: That replicator.

She didn’t feel the need to say anything else – the Yelikan’s demeanor clearly let on that she knew what Addison was talking about, and Addison knew that she knew that she knew.

Yellir: It wasn’t my suggestion, but Ensign Kader asked for help — so naturally, I obliged. But please tell me the champagne was good? Adding to pre-installed recipes like that can end up with some incredibly wild results.

MacKenzie: It seemed fine to me… I’ve certainly had far worse in the Shoals, anyway.

She picked up the mug and finished the rest of her Irish Coffee. After a moment, she gestured subtly to the Lurian at the end of the bar.

MacKenzie: What an interesting being… Have you ever met a Lurian?

Yellir: Response

Addison offered a dismissive shrug.

MacKenzie: I’ve heard they don’t say much… Best secret-keepers in all the galaxy.

Yellir: Response

She offered a slight smirk to Hallia as she stood from the bar and patted the engineer’s shoulder.

MacKenzie: I suppose you can keep the replicator as long as you put a security lock on it. Otherwise, try to stay out of trouble this shore leave.

Addison moved toward the door and as she passed through it and back onto the Promenade, her smile widened. She knew that the Yelikan couldn’t or wouldn’t make a promise to that effect, and she didn’t expect her to... After all, for whatever trouble Hallia might have gotten herself into during their service together, she had a way of getting herself out of it without catching the eyes of her CO.

...And that was an incredibly remarkable feat.
