(( Chief Tactical Officer's office – Deck 8, Artemis-A ))

Ollie stood anxiously, quickly surveying the room's layout. When he spotted the two PADDs back in OPS Centre and glanced at their headings, he realized he had to deliver some troubling news. His decision to leave one in Ensign Nyren's box - the one for Security - while delivering the other to Tactical seemed hasty. He had assumed that the tactical team wouldn't have immediate access to phasers and other potentially dangerous equipment, but the initial gaze on the lieutenant's face suggested that it might be wise to duck and cover. Second came more conciliatory.

Silveira: That late delivery just bogged my roster schedule, but rest assured my people will be there. I have two teams assigned for that. As for the extra room, why do I need a new form? It's for extra parts and maintenance supplies.

Bergmen: Regrettably, Operation Command did not clearly communicate this step to us, despite urgently insisting on its implementation, sir. As I was told, this new form is nonnegotiable and needs to be fulfilled. It probably has something to do with the Frontier Day events, if I’m permitted to offer my best guess.

Lieutenant’s raised eyebrow answered Ollie’s worries about the possibility of one particular ensign ending nailed to the wall. The ensign wasn't the target of the superior's disgust; it was the system he represented and the forces that had brought him there. It was a never-ending cycle of bureaucracy, churning out forms and paperwork to maintain the institution rather than improving the actual work within it.

Silveira: Really? For additional phaser emitter parts? I don’t want us to have to slug trough, like we did last mission, if another phaser strip is damaged out of commission. Besides, Tactical doesn’t use much space. We have our own spots for the torpedoes. A little extra room isn’t that much to ask. So what do you propose? How can we work this through?

Bergmen shrugged. He found himself stumped by the question. As a newly graduated ensign, he faced an experienced officer who should have been providing answers, not posing questions. If Ollie were still an NCO, he would just duplicate the previous form onto the new one, and include so many attachments that the others in line would simply extract the information they need from attachments without scrutinizing every line on yet another form created so that there would be some form for whoever whom. But Ollie was an officer now, lieutenant was an officer too. Officers were expected to uphold the standards of duty, and this Ollie felt was not exactly an "acceptable approach" to suggest.

Bergmen: If you examine the second file in PADD’s memory bank, you'll find a template that can serve as inspiration for properly completing this new form. It's not too difficult, you'll see. It's just five pages longer, but who's counting, right?

Ensign attempted to smile, but it came across more as a supportive gesture, akin to letting sleeping dogs lie. The lieutenant appeared somewhat unconvinced but maintained a friendly expression. He even appeared to be slightly more conciliatory and accepting of the situation he was dealing with, maybe even somewhat at peace.

Silveira: I see. Very well, what do you need me to do next as Tactical Chief?

Ollie gestured towards the chair, then took a seat before shifting closer to Sil after a moment.

Bergmen: Once you've completed the form, it's a piece of cake, sir. You just need to send it with all attachments to the quartermaster for verification, review, and comments. If it's approved, they will send it to the Supply OPS Officer, who will then need to confirm all with the third SCO code for a decision, fulfill a form of his own and send it back to the quartermaster, as they...

Ollie went on to fully describe the new, nice and simple process, detailing as well the new system that came with it - while he was hopeful that the next tactical acquisition from their chief tactical officer would not be a five-foot-long rope…

((OOC: As pointed out by Sil in his sim, with a new mission arrival we leave any details to be worked off screen.))
