((CMO’s Office - Primary Sickbay, Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))
Sadar: ... Suddenly going from being alone to being a household with a teenager is... Quite the adjustment. But I’m pleased that he has the opportunity to see more of the universe while he’s still young.
Gila was still struggling to wrap her head around this necessity for honest and soul-baring truths with her senior officer - particularly one she held such a complicated opinion of as Commander Adea - but evidently, his attempts to condition her into a less formal working rapport was having an effect. If Kolya asked her, she would never indicate that he was a burden in any way what-so-ever, so for her to admit so to her senior officer was ludicrous. Regardless, the truth of the matter was that she was very happy to have him with her.
But she’d been a single woman with no schedule to manage than her own for more than a decade. Now, there was suddenly someone waiting for her to eat dinner with them at night, waiting for her to come back from her shift to share stories of her day… Someone who wanted to spend their freetime just being with her and enjoying the day without duty and obligations calling her away suddenly.
For a workaholic like Gila, that was a major adjustment.
Adea: He’s a lucky Mizarian.
For a brief moment, Gila wondered at that. She was certain that to every other Mizarian on Mizabet, what her sister had done to Kolya was the ultimate betrayal. Casting him away from the safety of the People, to be led astray by the violence in the stars... But to someone like Gila?
Sadar: It’s not an opportunity that is easily obtainable for my people... ::considers:: Even if the circumstances are as they are.
Commander Adea - ever the insightful man - no doubt caught the brief moment of deep-rooted conflict passing over Gila’s face. She was, quite possibly, considered the worst poker face in the medical department, and relied solely on the good graces of her colleagues to allow these moments to pass without calling attention to them.
No doubt, they had realized that calling attention to her faulty expression management only worsened the issue in the moment.
Adea: Indeed. Well if you need any help, you only have to ask. I’ve never been much of a parent, and the four alone know that I let Toto walk over me, but… I’m here if you do.
Sadar: Thank you, Sir. I-I appreciate it. I don’t know the first thing about, uhh, ‘parenting’ - Mizarian or otherwise - so I’m sure I’ll have plenty of conundrums to require coaching on.
Adea: Perhaps we should introduce your nephew to Toto, it might make both our lives easier.
This stray suggestion made Gila smile wryly, if honestly, as she imagined Kolya encountering his first alien animal, and at that one as entirely lovable as the personification of a steamroller that was Commander Adea’s dog.
Sadar: Have them distract each other to afford us some leeway? Is that a Betazoid parenting technique?
Adea: Response
Gila slowly nodded, allowing herself to give the idea some actual thought.
Sadar: W-Well... I-I do think it would make an interesting experience for Kolya. I-I think I mentioned this when we first met back on in the Siamberr Library, but, uhh, having ‘pets’ isn’t really... It’s not done on Mizabet, so...
Adea: Response
Sadar: A-At the moment, he’s getting accustomed to his new living arrangements, and researching the various educational offers that allow remote learning within the Federation, but, I’ll, uhh... I-I’ll mention it to him. ::shuffles slightly::
She took one final swig of the Ferengi Spiced Tea that she had been handed, breathing in the strong scent with a slight exhale following. She felt her back untense slightly - which must have looked absolutely crazy to Commander Adea, who hardly ever saw Gila not tense, but such was the magic of tea.
Such intense was the magic of tea, actually, that Gila decided today was the day to be daring.
Today was the day to ask personal questions.
Sadar: Do you, uhh... H-Have any plans while we’re docked, Sir? I-I realize DS224 is supposed to be something of a, uhh, ‘home port’ for us?
Oh, her father would be scandalized if he saw her asking about a superior’s private matters like this..
Adea: Response
