((Sacred Marketplace - Ferenginar))

((OOC - I used this map))

After purchasing their mulled wine Ava and the Edo Commander strolled through the marketplace. The festivities, or the mulled wine, were making her feel the “festive cheer” as she had seen it referred too. She also had the sudden curiosity to learn more about Earth history at a time when these types of markets would have been more popular. I guess the history lessons always got a little distracted with the Third World War that followed this era.

Munro: I'm sure it's an Earth drink. It's my first time though :: looks around :: Does it make me a bad human if this is the first Christmas market I've been to?

Jovenan: No, not at all! ::pause, looks around:: I wonder how universal they’ve got the experience anyway. Were there events like this on your homeworld?

Ava wondered if this was an accurate representation of would have been like in centuries past and if some places on Earth still celebrated this. She couldn't imagine the appeal of a holiday that was infamous for its consumerism being popular in the utopian world.

Munro: I don't know, I never knew of any when I lived there. :: nods ahead ::  Does Vitor suit hats?

Her attention had been caught by a stall that was bedecked with all manner of hats. Top hats, beanies, pointed, fedora, panama, cowboy and many others that she didn't know the names for from all manner of species. The vendor was a handsome Boslic merchant wearing a sharp, stylish suit and of course a matching hat.

Jovenan: Hmm, I don’t remember him ever wearing one.

Munro: Maybe the Captain would appreciate a hat? I can see her in a top hat.

Jovenan: Like those Earth dignitaries wore during the, um, pre-World War III era? I guess that would be fitting.

Munro: It would also be a lot of fun.

As they approached the hat stall. The impeccably dressed Boslic touched the brim of his own hat in greeting.

Hat vendor: Good afternoon, ladies. Are you perhaps looking for a present to a friend?

Ava only smiled casually when Jovenan glanced towards her.

Jovenan: Yes, yes we are!

Hat vendor: Splendid. What type of headwear are you looking for?

Munro: :: definite :: I want a top hat.

The Artemis' chief science officer was a lot more cautious in her purchasing efforts than Ava, who seemingly was ‘the first thing I see, I'm buying’ type of shopper.

Jovenan: I like the idea of a top hat. She also likes racing, but I don’t know if there are hats associated in that sports… ::points at cowboy hat:: What’s this?

Munro: You've never done a Western Holodeck Programme? :: tuts :: That's a cowboy hat. Commander Jovenan we need to remedy this at the first opportunity :: shakes head :: I thought it was a rite of passage for every Starfleet officer to do a Western Holo.

Jovenan: Response

Munro: It's 19th century Earth. The historical contexts are important but most programmes aren't supposed to be taken seriously: they have wagon trains, horses, gun fights, cowboys that wear those hats :: points :: and they ride horses and do exciting fun stuff. It's a lot of fun :: looks at Jovenan :: There are more serious ones that are more about the learning of that time period. It was, apparently, a very brutal time in Earth's history overall. :: shrugs :: Hence why I've only done the fun one. My Holodeck time is for kicking back and shooting some train robbers.

Jovenan: Response

Munro: :: to the vendor :: I'll take a cowboy hat. That black one, with the feathers :: mischief :: We can schedule some time on the Holodeck, if you'd like? I'll even do the historical one but only if you'll do the fun one with me? Not historically accurate at all and ridiculous but you'll have so much fun. And you get to ride a horse - who doesn't love riding horses?

Jovenan: Response
