((Sickbay, Deck 7, USS Artemis))
Adea: Yeah, you can retract it right up your –
Morgan: ::clearing his throat:: I think you’ve made your point, Commander…
Jovenan wasn’t surprised of Commander Adea’s bursts of aggression anymore, yet the newly gained vulgarity caught of off-guard. The chemical they had discovered had caused the Da’al and Commander Adea to act more aggressively and violently, but judging by the Commander’s potty-mouth, it might have also lowered inhibitions.
Jovenan: Hmm, he has not only become more aggressive, but also more… obscene.
Silveira: Now, now Commander, if you keep that up I will revive the Portuguese tradition of putting pepper in your tongue.
Adea: I’m sure he can give you some surgical lubricant from MY STORES. That’ll help!
Doctor Morgan professionally moved on from arguing with a mentally affected patient to seeking solutions, scanning him with a medical tricorder.
Morgan: Ensign, you said that you thought some dust caused this?
Jovenan: Uh, yes. Most likely. A compound of gallium and some other elements that should be unstable but is not, and not only that, but its charge is also fluctuating. It was everywhere as an aerosol, in the dust. Ensign Jones was also studying it, he had also noticed the effect in the Da’al. But only in Da’al, none of us other than Commander Adea seems to have been affected.
Silveira: And Lieutenant Dakora, the only Betazoids on the away teams.
This surprised Jovenan, as she hadn’t heard of it before. Lt Silveira had stepped out to chat with the Captain, just before the cane attack down on the planet. Maybe that’s where he heard it from, since Lt Dakora was with the Captain. He wouldn’t have had the opportunity to relay the news either. Maybe the dust’s effect was based on species, only affecting the Da’al and Betazoids for some reason. Could it have something to do with telepathy? Betazoids are telepaths – meaning the Commander might be reading them this entire time – and if she remembered correctly, the Da’al had something similar as well.
Adea: Response
Morgan: Have we heard back from the other teams? Maybe they’ve had some luck…
Jovenan: Uh, no. We haven’t had the time to contact the others since beaming back up thanks to… this all.
The injured Lieutenant leaned towards them on the biobed. Jovenan began to wonder how badly she had screwed up to cause that reaction.
Silveira: Dammit I told we should contact the bridge so they pinpoint the other team's position and…
Lt Silveira’s response shook Jovenan more than anything the restrained Commander had shrieked at them. It wasn’t a screw-up, it was a total failure. She had thought she had done stellar job keeping the Lieutenant alive and managing to prevent the Commander from hurting any other person, yet she still got shouted at by a superior officer. But it didn’t matter how much one were to do well, if in the end fail a crucial step; previous success doesn’t matter if you drop the evacuee a few metres from the airlock.
She tried to hold back emotions as she took up a better posture being dressed down by the Lieutenant. He had given the order to inform the bridge and get a lock on the other teams, but she hadn’t done any of it. Mere minutes ago, she had viewed herself an Edo mediator judging Commander Adea, but realistically, she would be receiving a capital punishment herself right after him.
Morgan/Adea: Response
The Lieutenant lied back down.
Silveira: I know, I know Doc. I am out of commission.
Jovenan couldn’t help thinking if her omission of contacting the teams could have put their lives in jeopardy. Lt Dakora was with the Captain, if he had become violent as Commander Adea had, she was in danger. The other team might not even know how bad the situation had become.
Jovenan: I wonder if something could have happened to the other away teams…
Wondering, not acting, didn’t seem to be to the Lieutenant’s liking.
Silveira: Get a transporter lock and hail them.
Jovenan: ::standing at attention, panicky:: A-aye, sir! Right away, sir!
She couldn’t afford to make more mistakes. All she could wish was that the other teams were okay and that the mission ended soon so she could crawl into her bed and not cause any more disappointments. She took a few steps out to contact the bridge and the away teams, but not soo far that she couldn’t hear the other officers talking to each other.
Morgan/Adea: Response
Silveira: That is what I would have done if I wasn't trapped here. Then we can start on the cure.
First, she needed to get the transporter lock.
Jovenan: =/\= Ensign Jovenan to Bridge. I’m in sickbay with Lieutenant Silveira… and Commander Adea. Please locate the away teams and get a lock on them in case they need an emergency beam-out. =/\=
Morgan/Adea: Response
Silveira: Whatever we find that might cure this we can consider its way of reaching down the surface. Maybe an aerial deployment, kind of an aerosol or a radiation surge from the ship’s emitters. ::he tilted his head to face them, especially Kyle:: Just saying Doc. As you can see I am not straining myself.
A bridge officer confirmed they had received the instructions. As the two lieutenants continued their chat, Jovenan tapped her combadge.
Jovenan: =/\= Ensign Jovenan to Commander MacKenzie. =/\=
MacKenzie: =/\= Response =/\=
At least the Captain wasn’t dead. She could feel some of the tenseness leaving her body.
Morgan/Adea/Silveira: Response?
Jovenan: =/\= Y-yes, sir. We are on the Artemis. Commander Adea attacked the Da’al, and we were fired upon, so we needed to beam back to the ship. Lieutenant Silveira is injured, he’s being treated in the sickbay. Commander Adea is restrained in here as well. ::pause:: What is the status of your team, sir? =/\=
MacKenzie: =/\= Response =/\=
