(( Operations Center, Deck 5 - USS Artemis ))

Coming back to reality is never easy. Whether returning from shore leave, illness, or injury, one thing is certain: the work will always be waiting for you, and no one will do it for you. Nothing is so urgent that it can’t wait until you return. Nothing is so pressing that someone can’t hold onto it for a week, only to send it to you with a “needs to be processed immediately” flag on Friday, just five minutes before your shift ends.

But that was life at OPS, and Olliver Kimmi Bergmen wouldn’t trade it for anything. Or he thought so, until he crossed paths with her.

Brexis: Hey! ::snapping her fingers and pointing:: You!

Ollie turned to look at the voice and found himself gazing at a blonde woman adorned in a red-trimmed uniform. He tilted his head ever so slightly, clear without uttering a word in his expression what he thought of her assertive tone.

Bergmen: Me? May I help you… ::glances to her neck:: Lieutenant?

She nodded in agreement.

Brexis: Yes. You. ::Holding out her hand as she stepped closer:: I am Lieutenant JG Charlotte Brexis, your new Strategic Operations Officer.

Ollie extended his hand to shake the lieutenant's.

Bergmen: Good to meet you, Lieutenant Brexis.

oO I guess? Oo

Bergmen: Lieutenant JG Ollie Bergmen, Operations.

Her body posture shifted slightly when she heard his name. Whether this change signaled a positive turn remained to be seen.

Brexis: I did have a few questions about some of the logistics and readiness of the ship. Are you available to run over some of that with me?

Bergmen: Of course, Lieutenant, that can do. You are in the right place.

She smiled, he smiled. She pointed vaguely somewhere behind Bergmen.

Brexis: Wherever you want to start. It’s imperative that I understand how ready the ship is for emergencies, combat and just overall logistics.

His smile widened as he escorted her to the nearest desk.

Bergmen: Okay, Lieutenant. Nothing is easier than that.

He leaned over the table, pulled out several PADDs from the compartments, and began stacking them on top of each other.

Bergmen: I will just need you to fill a couple of forms… ::picks the stack, turns to face Brexis, and begins to pass them over:: This one needs to be signed by your division chief with a qualified signature certificate, not the seal. This one you need to fill yourself, so we can add you to the system… This is an informal request for the topics you require us to collect… and the last one is for us to access the database so we can confirm you have clearance to get what you ask for. After you bring them to me, we will immediately begin collecting the information and return to you within 30 days if everything is properly filled out and documented.

He smiled like a pig in the clover.

Brexis: Response

Ollie couldn't hold back his laughter any longer; he bent at the waist, gasping for breath as waves of giggles burst from him. After a moment, he regained control, straightening up with a satisfied grin. Still, even as he collected himself, shimmering tears of joy streaked down his cheeks and sparkled in his eyes.

Bergmen: Got you whole, Lieutenant, on your face! You should see your expression right now!

Bergmen sighed, wiped the tears from his face, and reached for one of the PADDs in the stack Brexis held in her hands.

Brexis: Response

Bergmen: But now, for real, I will still need you to fill out and sign one of those… this? No, this one, Request for collection - the information of interest, yeah, this one.

Ollie pointed to the desk they were standing beside.

Bergmen: Take your time, you can fill it here. When you are ready, we can begin, ok?

Brexis: Response
