(( Quarter 0712, USS Artemis-A ))
((Week after Bajoran Cave accident))
The sound of the bell echoed through the room, prompting Damien to rise from the comfort of the couch in the shared living space. He made his way to the door, where he gently pushed it open. As the door swung silently, his fatigued expression transformed into a warm smile upon seeing the familiar figure. With a welcoming gesture, he stepped aside, allowing CPO Benny Cliff, Jaseb's physiotherapist, and his sleek hover chair to enter.
Black: He’s in his room, working on the new prosthetic. For some reason he’s moody with that one he got in Bajor. Just for you to know.
Cliffhigh: Response
Black: No, sir. He does not want my help. He wants to show you the progress he made. So he will try to stand up on his own.. ::rolls his eyes up::
Damien made his way back to the coach, settled into a comfortable position, and picked up the book from the table. He resumed reading the chapter that he had already started.
(( Jaseb’s room, Quarter 0712, USS Artemis-A ))
In the softly lit room, Ensign Jaseb Chevalier carefully worked on the mechanical prosthetic leg. The combination of the dim overhead light and the glow from the lamp on the table provided just the right amount of illumination, casting a warm and focused ambiance. As he meticulously shaped the prosthetic, it began to bear and mimic the structure of its organic counterpart if it wasn't for intricate wiring and sturdy struts subtly visible beneath the external plating.
When the door opened behind him, he didn't even look up.
Chevalier: I’m okay, Dami, as I was okay five minutes ago. I have work, I have coffee, thank you for it, I have everything I need.
Ensign continued his work for a second or two before he stopped when there was no answer and turned his head towards the door.
Chevalier: Ah, Chief Cliffhigh, it’s you. Is it time already? Ok, just a second…
Chevalier removed a strap from his head, removing an ancient contraption with a complex mechanism of deployable expansion lenses. He carefully set aside the tool he was holding and pushed himself towards the opposite wall, taking a crutch leaning against a nearby bookcase.
Chevalier: Just a second…
Jaseb grabbed the crutch and used it for support. It seemed that his neurons were still not fully cooperating with the latest addition to his "borgization," as the prosthetic bent imperfectly at the knee. For a moment, it appeared as though the ensign was leaning back into his chair when he attempted to stand up.
It was not a mechanical fault or the result of an injury. The Bajoran doctors fully tested and confirmed that the nerve endings were connected to the cybernetics of his prosthetics before they released Ensign to home care back to Artemis. But where the body was capable, apparently, the mind was not.
But finally, he got it right, stood up, leaned on his crutch, and with a hop, his leg straightened, he turned to Benny.
Chevalier: I’m ready.
Cliffhigh: Response
