Savel: Anyone unarmed, please stand behind me.

Rennol crouched behind the rock. He looked at his partner, who was still observing the alien group from the pair’s hiding place. Rennol didn’t want to be spotted by the aliens, but Kireeh either didn’t mind or was certain of his cover.

Rennol: ::whispering:: How could they find us!?

Kireeh: ::whispering:: They must have detection capabilities that aren’t affected by kelbonite.

The aliens were looking around, trying to find them among the barren rocks. One of them, a humanoid male, had a weapon that neither of the Da’al could recognize. He looked the most determined of the four, directing the other aliens behind him for cover.

Savel: This is Ensign Savel, of the Starfleet vessel Artemis. Your being here is no longer a secret. Present yourself to us now, or your secrecy will be interpreted as a threat.

Kireeh and Rennol could easily deduce the armed humanoid male was the leader of the pack. He didn’t bother hiding his name or rank, not to mention his vessel. The statement of personal information puzzled them: secret agents who don’t bother to hide their identities?

Rennol: ::whispering:: They don’t sound like kids on field trip anymore! What should we do to them? Kill them?

Kireeh: ::whispering:: No! I already told you, that would attract more of them!

The lead alien was issuing orders to the subordinates. Kireeh considered his options. The aliens might not be on a secret mission, but they are still deathly soldiers. If they happened to find them among the rocks, Rennol and Kireeh might need to use lethal force. On the other hand, if the aliens left without finding them, the group would inform their superiors there’s something suspicious going on here, bringing even more of them. He couldn’t let either of those scenarios happen.

Kireeh: ::whispering:: Keep your weapon ready but act naturally. Follow me and let me do the talking.

Kireeh stood up behind the rock. Rennol hadn’t been expecting his partner taking such an unusual approach and stared at him, his eyes wide open, before standing up as well.

Kireeh: ::to the Starfleet officers:: Put down your weapon, sir, there’s no need for it.

Savel/Kader/Lorana/Jovenan: Response

Kireeh and Rennol walked down the uneven, rocky slope to the alien group from their hiding place. Rennol had hid his weapon to his back pocket, activated and ready to shoot some snooping aliens. As the two reached the group, Kireeh assumed a determined posture in front of the pack leader.

Kireeh: I am Senior Warden Valhe, of the Planetary Park Service, Northeast Regional Ranger Division. This is my patrol partner, Junior Warden Sepite. May I ask why you threaten us with weapons?

Savel/Kader/Lorana/Jovenan: Response

Kireeh: I see. You don’t look like you’re from around here. ::looks at them back and forth:: Enjoying the natural beauty of the Canyon, eh?

Savel/Kader/Lorana/Jovenan: Response
