((
Quarter 0712, Deck
5, USS Artemis-A ))
(( Four
days
after... ))
Jaseb looked
at himself in the mirror. Dressed in a new uniform, he felt weirdly
not himself. As if that uniform didn't belong to him. Rubbed his
neck, pulled his back, pressed his chest to the point he couldn't
breathe. But somewhere inside him he knew the truth. It was not a
uniform, who was wrong, it was him.
He tried to smile at himself in the
mirror. It felt wrong. Looked wrong. He tried again. And then again
and again, until he saw the face which looked naturally smiling. His
eyes still betrayed him with the pain hidden behind. He
looked away. He choked back the tears.
His combadge beeped.
Saved the moment. Saved him.
Savel: =/\= Ensign Savel to
Ensign Chevalier. Please join me in the security center at the
training facility. =/\=
Chevalier: =/\= Cherkesov here.
Understood. I'm on my way. =/\=
Jaseb took a last look at himself.
oO Smile.. Oo
He giggled. It looked
natural, natural enough.
(( Security
Center - Training Facility, Deck 8, USS Artemis-A ))
Jaseb
entered the Security Center. He wasn't there for weeks. Everything
looked like before, like nothing changed. Consoles were beeping.
People working on their tasks. Life did not simply stop.
Savel:
Ensign Chevalier, thank you for arriving promptly. Follow
me.
Chevalier: Ok, Ensign. No problem. Lead the way.
Jaseb
followed Savel to their training grounds holodeck. He received the
review notification from the first officer and thought about that
before – if he should contact Security training officers, or they
will contact him? Obviously, the wheels of bureaucracy worked in
their own way, and solved his dilemma for him.
Holodeck doors
closed behind them, and what Jaseb could see was a standard
qualification range similar to one he trained to obtain a basic
weapon qualification at the Academy. Basic stalls for general
familiarization with the weapons on one side, a short series of
corridors for shoot/no-shoot drills on another.
Savel:
Following our intrusion by the Desdemona crew, various officers have
been selected to requalify with phaser weapons. Please retrieve a
phaser from the locker and let me know if you have any questions
before we begin.
Jaseb smirked over Savel's
introduction.
oO Of course, Ensign. Random sample, hm?
Oo
Chevalier: No questions, Mr. Savel. I have experience
with this basic weapon training from the Academy and I understand
my punishment. And why do I repeat this qualification.
Jaseb
walked to the cabinet with the training phasers. He took one, checked
if the phaser was really the one for training and set to tag only.
After his check he holstered the phaser, and returned to
Savel.
Chevalier: Weapon check completed, Mr. Savel. Ready for inspection.
Savel: Response
