(Arboretum - Deck 3 - USS Artemis-A))

Luxa had chosen her clothing carefully. She wore a mint green, tight fitted dress, a slit at either side to allow room for her legs. Her thick silver man had been styled glamorously and cascaded around her shoulders and down her back. She felt it was stylish, elegant and a small part of wanted MacKenzie to like it.

Would you ever not seek the approval of your first CO? Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the distinctive red hair of her first captain.

Lorana: Captain?

MacKenzie: ::playfully, with mock seriousness:: I see you remember where the arboretum is. But you're underdressed.

Lorana: Its nice to see you. As you can see, I don't wear the uniform anymore, I temporarily took leave of my commission. Long and traumatic story that I won't bore you with. I'm here in my capacity as a diplomatic envoy and my role with the Caitian Division of Research, Exploration and Development. I received a communiqué from your medical department. Do you have some genetic mutations

Luxa accepted the PADD that the Fleet Captain offered. Her felinoid eyes glanced over the contents quickly.

MacKenzie: Truthfully, I don't know what it is we have. I'm hoping you might be able to help.

Luxa nodded, familiarising herself yet again with the information contained within. Most of it medical reports, scans, tests and comparitive studies provided by the medical doctors on the Artemis.

She had heard that both Doctors Adea and Sadar had gone on to pastures new. In fact, she intended to seek out Doctor Sadar when she got to DS224. Now that was a story she intended to hear first hand, and hopefully coax the timid doctor to let her perform a study … this could be the very thing that puts D-SRED on the galactic map.

Lorana: The reports the doctor’s provided were thorough, I’ve been fascinated by the contents and the stories. Another reason to be cautious of transporters if you ask me.

Transporters were a no go for Luxa, ever since her condition the risk of complete molecular collapse was far too great. Her entire being was held together with regular gene therapy. The very same thing that she hoped may help the poor souls undergoing a transformation of their own.

MacKenzie: We've got a slew of good doctors aboard, but none of us are geneticists. At least, not with experience to the degree that you have.

Lorana: My experience was an unfortunate necessity.

She remembered the moment in fragmented memories. No time. The shuttle doors opening, grabbing hold of Beck, and then the blast and the searing heat. The pain.

MacKenzie: What do you think? Something you can help with?

Lorana: :: nods carefully :: I think so. I have a working theory, based on the gene therapy created by myself and the scientists on Jupiter Station. I’ll need the help of your doctors, they are more familiar with the transformation process than I am, there’s still a lot of questions I have around genetic sequencing and the patients themselves. What will work for one may not be effective for the other.

Luxa’s tail flicked briefly above her head, her whiskers bristled a little. Under the gaze of MacKenzie she would forever feel like an ensign.

Lorana: With your permission, Captain?

MacKenzie: Response

Lorana: Thank you, Captain :: less confident :: It’s … It’s surreal being back onboard the Artemis. In fact, it's strange being back onboard a Starfleet ship :: quiet :: I was in a coma the last time after the experiment went wrong.

MacKenzie: Response

Lorana: Don’t worry, Captain. The gene therapy is safe :: pause :: Most of the time.

Luxa smiled, and wide eyes met the Captains.

Lorana: Truth is, we have no real way of knowing what will happen :: slight excitement :: I have to admit that this provides an opportunity for us to extend our research to other species. The genetic resequencing can help with countless diseases across many worlds :: even more excited :: we’ve even begun studies into interspecies reproduction. It's very exciting :: beat and then thinks :: Don’t misunderstand me Captain. Your crew is the priority, and if we can use this research to cure them then I want to do that. I guess, I just want you to know that this is experimental :: smiles :: But what isn’t in Starfleet :: nervous laugh ::

MacKenzie: Response
