((Holodeck 2, Deck 2, Artemis-A))
Breys had finally nailed the form it seemed. It took what felt like an impressive amount of nitpicking to perfect the stance, but in the end, the look of approval was worth it.
Breys: ::more upbeat:: What’s next then?
Storm: Now bend your knees just a little. If I were to throw a knife at you,
oO Not that I would, Sil, at least not since you banned carrying them. Oo even if you had a phaser, believe it or not, I’d likely win if I caught you off guard. If your knees are always bent, you can react more quickly, and you’d have a better shot at dodging it.
It seemed the form still had some room for improvement.
Breys: Alright. ::she attempts to adjust herself:: How about this?
Storm: There -- see! Now that looks better!
Breys: Perfect! So, that’s the stance down?
She looked down range nervously, knowing what was next.
Storm: Let’s see what we’re working with. Fortunately for you, these targets don’t shoot back, at least not yet. Three shots at the bulls-eye downrange. When you’re ready.
Breys: Alright, still stun. Right?
She was stalling for time
Storm: Response
Breys: Okay. Right.
Breys took a long breath. She never felt like this was supposed to be her job. It felt strange to know she was expected to be good at it. She shakily pointed the phaser down range. One shot clipped the right edge of the target barely clearing the threshold of the hit buzzer. After another breath, a second shot was slightly further closer to the center, on the upper left side. She focused, paused for several seconds, took a deep breath, held it, and missed entirely.
Storm: Response
Breys: I’m sorry sir, I’m having trouble holding it straight. It just makes me nervous to fire a phaser. It's a lot of power in a little container.
Storm: Response
