(( Computer Core Upper Level - Deck 5 - USS Karnack ))

As Ava was busy remodulating the forcefield or at least attempting to, there was a nearby crash. Ava felt that pain flow through her body again.

oO don't think about it Oo

MacKenzie: ::narrowing her eyes as she listened to the sound:: I believe they’ve breached the hull…

Brexis: ::To Bergmen:: Hey. Is it this big hunk of ::gesturing vaguely while squinting her eyes:: whatever this is.

Ava twisted her neck towards the Betazoid officer's general location.

oO she doesn't know what a Starfleet generator looks like? Oo

It was a cause for concern but not something she could deal with at this moment. Perhaps it was the shock of what she had been through on the planet. Some people could rise to the occasion and others were overwhelmed and could forget basic training.

Bergmen: Yes. Yes, ma’am ::sighs:: But it looks like it did go through an emergency shutdown.

Breys: It sounds like they’re below us somewhere.

Ava was keen to hurry things along. Her thoughts were beginning to cloud.

Munro: I think that’s our cue to get a move on :: shouts down to Bergman and Brexis :: We’ll definitely need those batteries for the graviton emitters!

Brexis: ::Yelling back:: We are working on it!

Ava looked to the Captain, eyebrow slightly raised.

Breys: Any luck with the force field sir?

Munro: :: sighs :: The power flow isn’t consistent enough. One of the conduits must have failed. We’re gonna have to restore that first.

The captain moved to the panel and began inputting commands.

MacKenzie: I’m going to see what I can do about trying to shunt power. You keep working on the forcefields.

Ava nodded. Then from below came more bad news.

Brexis: Ollie, I’m going to be honest. Aside from kicking this thing, I have no clue how to get it going.

Every word that came from that woman's mouth left her feeling less confident in her abilities than she had been before. Her irritation only increased towards the Betazoid.

Bergmen: ::smiles:: Just let me work. I will tell you when you will be needed.

Munro: Focus, Brexis! Think about your training.

MacKenzie: ::shaking her head:: I don’t know why this isn't working. ::shouting:: Any luck with a generator?

Brexis: ::Yelling back to the captain:: We are trying!

Again, it seemed the JG had forgotten how to address a senior officer. No less a Fleet Captain. Ava glanced towards MacKenzie.

Bergmen: ::whispers as he concentrate:: Just a second, Lieutenant. This is a delicate process.

((OOC : Ava wouldn't have heard that))

There was another scraping noise echoing from below them. The Things were making slow progress. Inching towards new food sources.

Ava felt them more clearly then, their hunger rattled within her. The constant state of pain, she held it within herself. She paused for several seconds, clutching against the panel she was working on.

Breys: I think they’re getting closer.::nervously::  Any way I can help?

Munro: :: struggling :: I might need :: takes a breath :: I need a break, ensign can you help me here.

Breys positioned herself beside Ava.

MacKenzie: Whatever we’re going to do, we’d better do it fast..

Brexis: ::Shouting at no one in particular:: I kicked it! It’s turning on!

oO what is going on down there?! Oo

Bergmen: ::whispers to Brexis:: Really?

Breys: Let’s hope the generator warms up soon.

Munro: It should take a while for the batteries to charge.

MacKenzie: Response

Brexis: Sometimes things just need kicking to work right. Percussive maintenance is what I think they call it.

Ava had to stifle an eye roll. It was sloppy and reductive to deliberately damage equipment just because you fail to understand how the technology works. The amount of low skilled engineers that resulted in that kind of reckless damage consisted of 67% of accidental injury.

Bergmen: ::winks to Brexis and smile:: Please… Don’t do that, ma’am, next time. Ok?

Breys: ::under her breath:: As long as it works.

Munro: I'd prefer you not potentially damage equipment that our lives depend on Ensign. That's not an example to follow.

MacKenzie: Response

Brexis: The batteries should be charging now. ::beat, then shouting:: The batteries should be charging now!

The buffer for the power flow immediately started building, and the brightness of the lights slowly started to even out.

Bergmen: ::shouting:: Where do you need us captain?

MacKenzie: Response

For some strange reason, Brexis doubled over in pain at that moment. Something about these creatures hurt her specifically.

Brexis: ::Pained:: They are getting closer!

Ava felt their presence but the pain seemed to lessen the closer they were getting. She looked towards the Betazoid and the anger she felt towards her increased. It was irrational a part of her knew that but it wasn't in her control. It was the creature, she felt it's mind and it's assault on Brexis. And she liked it.

Bergmen jumped in closer, gently taking her by the shoulders, and bent down to meet her gaze.

Bergmen: Lieutenant, it’s ok. They are not here. Listen to the sound of my voice. Breath. I need you, Lieutenant. I need your help. ::calmly:: It’s gonna be ok. Breath.

Breys: Power should be stable enough for the force field soon. Let's hope it holds them back.

Munro: Captain. I'm experiencing some difficulties. I think our trips through the transporters did something to us?

To put it mildly.

MacKenzie: Response

Munro: I can continue but … if you need to stun me.

Bergmen: ::calmly:: Good. Good. In and out. Let it all out. I will be right back, ok?

Breys: Everything alright down there? We're running low on time.

She heard the anxiety in the Ensigns voice and straightened her position. He could resist the influence she felt.

Munro: The Thing is attacking her with telepathy.

MacKenzie/Brexis: Response

Bergmen: ::shouts:: All systems… (beat) Most systems show green! The important one! Ready anytime you are!

That was all Ava needed to hear, she looked to the power flow come back through the consoles. They flickered on and off, there was some sparks and the smell of burning filled the computer core.

Breys: Alright. ::looks to Munro:: I'm as ready as I can be.

Munro: Let's do this.

MacKenzie/Brexis: Response

The first officer began to tweak the phase modulator back and forth gently, barely misaligning and realigning the flow. The ensign watched her console in suspense.

For a moment the power flickered on.

Breys: ::scrambling to get data off her console:: The current frequency is- ::the console shuts off again, the lights dim:: I couldn't get it in time.

Munro: Keep trying.

Bergmen/MacKenzie/Brexis: Response

After a handful of seconds.

Breys: ::with more urgency:: The current force field frequency is 83.6 megahertz! We need to scan within a few megahertz of that.

Munro: Establishing force fields now.

Her hand lingered longer than she would like. A slight resistance that she pushed through.

Bergmen/MacKenzie/Brexis: Response

Hopefully this would hold the Things off long enough for them to reestablish primary systems. The search was still within a stable range for force fields, but one slip could let the barrier down.

Breys: Can you work out any of the fluctuations in power down there? The force field is barely stable. Maybe kick it again?

Ava gave the ensign an eyebrow raise.

Munro: Let's not do that. We need to align the remodulating frequency.

Bergmen/Brexis: Response

Ava began to carefully modulate along with the frequencies. A rhythm began to emerge …

Munro: I think I've got it. It's not perfect but we've stabilised the computer core.

Bergmen/MacKenzie/Brexis/Breys: Response

Ava went to the console that would tell her the operational situation of the ship. It was not pretty.

Munro: We've got some partial systems back online. Main Engineering, Partial Sickbay - the Quarantine Suite, that makes sense. Antimatter storage bay, and the shuttle craft room on deck 2 :: sighs :: That's not going to be enough to get us off this planet.

((OOC : I took this information from the other scene. We still need to get Deflector Array, Impulse Engines, Shield Emitters, Lifesupport Systems and the Bridge.))

Bergmen/MacKenzie/Brexis/Breys: Response

Munro: We may need to split up, Captain?

Bergmen/MacKenzie/Brexis/Breys: Response
