(( Jaseb’s room, Quarter 0712, USS Artemis-A )) Jaseb struggled to stand, his prosthetic knee still difficult to control fully. As he rose from the chair, he extended his prosthetic leg and relied on a crutch for support. He wobbled a bit as he got up, but eventually, he got the hang of it and turned to Benny. Chevalier: I’m ready. Cliffhigh: So I see. ::he pointed to the other leg.:: And you’re also working on a spare. Or is it a replacement? Jaseb bounced lightly on the balls of his feet before pivoting to face the table. His gaze settled on a prosthetic leg he was building, a skeletal framework that would eventually become a part of him oO A testament to the advanced technology of my world and our enlightenment… Oo Chevalier: Replacement. Part of the holy path of my people. Any improvement we do to ourselves is the one building our own hands. Benny solemnly nodded and took a step forward, closing the distance between himself and Jaseb. Chevalier watched him as he gently raised his hands toward the young ensign, like he would offering both physical and emotional support as a sign of solidarity and strength. Cliffhigh: Hold my hands and sit back in the chair. Jaseb foolishly disregarded Benny's attempts to help, fully believing he could manage on his own. Chevalier: I can do i… As he put his weight on his prosthetic leg, he faltered momentarily but managed to regain his balance with the support of his crutch. A defeated sigh escaped him as he looked at Chief, reached out his hand to Benny, acknowledging his need for assistance. Chevalier: Or not… With the physiotherapist's support, Jaseb leaned heavily on the professional's arm. Together, they carefully made their way to the chair. Once there, Jaseb eased himself into the seat with the aid of the physiotherapist. Cliffhigh: My concern is that you might be pushing yourself, and your new limb, a little too fast. I don't like the way the knee is working. Jaseb nodded in understanding, silently acknowledging Benny's perspective. However, he held his own views on the socially appropriate timing to navigate through this phase of clumsiness. oO But he’s an expert in the field with decades of experience; what’s your argument, Jaseb? Oo That was a compelling argument to which Jaseb had no answer. Chevalier: That knee, it’s like I would not feel it…like I felt my leg before or you know…I don’t need to think about moving my hand ::turns his wrists and curls the fingers on his right mechanical hand:: to do what I want to do. But with this leg, I need to focus. I need to think about movement, and in half the cases, it doesn't help anyway. Benny smiled at Jaseb. He seemed to comprehend the challenges the young ensign was experiencing. He crouched on the ground, gazing slightly upward at Chevalier. Cliffhigh: Let's focus on small achievements to reach the higher objective. I want you to raise your leg and bend the knee. See if you can do it four times. Jaseb nodded in understanding and gazed down at his leg. The cybernetic limb extended and lifted into the air. His facial muscles tightened as he focused on the precise movement. The faint creak of the knee accompanied the gradual descent of the lower portion of the prosthetic leg, not quite reaching the ideal angle Jaseb had in mind. He lifted his prosthetic leg back into the air and repeated the movement. The movement still wasn't perfect, but considering the brief period the young ensign had to adjust to his new prosthetic, it showed promising progress despite indicating that he was pushing himself too hard. After repeating the exercise for the third and fourth time, it became increasingly evident that Jaseb's movements were becoming more erratic, and his ability to achieve the desired result was declining. When his prosthetic touched the fourth time, Chevalier massaged the stump of his biological leg and looked at Benny. Chevalier: Like I said. If I lose attention even for a moment, he hardly listens to me. Cliffhigh: Response TAG/TBC
