(( Room 3408, Stardust Hotel, Kelara Station ))
H’aal: How quickly can you reach Kelara? They are leaving the station tomorrow at noon.
He wanted to press her, but he wanted her to know that they wouldn’t be sticking around for long.
Storm: I’ll head down to Fereginar within the hour and try to charter a shuttle.
He nodded, contracting his face as he pondered the time Alex might arrive and whether she would make it.
Storm: It’s about a twenty-two-hour trip. Stall them if you can. Do you know…
Her computer outpaced his calculations, and was likely more precise as well, yet that accuracy was not something he enjoyed hearing. She will miss them, but not by a lot.
H’aal: I… I don't know where they are going yet, but I will find out. I'll let you know, don’t worry, Alex. I won’t let him slip away, not again.
Storm: I’m on my way.
She stood, and her fingers reached for the button to disconnect the call, when they stopped a fraction of an inch from the button.
Storm: Will you send that picture of her to me?
H’aal stared at her from the screen for a moment; his form was barely perceptible, as if the image had frozen. Then, he suddenly moved and nodded.
H’aal: I will send you all of them.
His paws quickly started flying over the keyboard, and soon the transferred files began popping up on Alex's screen as they were downloaded one after another. It was more than fifty photos and other files, not just Cassie or Konna, but some travel documents he collected, too.
She quickly glanced at what he had sent her before looking back at his face.
Storm: I’ll be there as soon as I can.
Their eyes met, and it was like no more words were needed. They knew what the other wanted to say, and hearing those words aloud was not needed. They will meet soon and tell them in person.
Storm: Thank you.
He smiled. There were moments when he didn't expect her ever to thank him. But the past was the past. He had more gray hair, and she...
H’aal: Thank me when you will hold her in your arms, Alex. Until then, we have work to do. ::smiles::
She took the hint and ended the call. As the room darkened, H'aal gazed out the window at the bustling life of the city below. He was right that he still had a lot of work to do. And if he was going to make sure that Konna would not vanish again, he needed to start as early as possible to get everything done.
End for H'aal
