((Outside of Alyndra’s Quarters, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A))

Having been shouted at twice by Lieutenant Vailani and having possibly broken her door, the young Ensign’s second task of the day had gone much better.  No one had shouted and no doors had been damaged.  He did break his PADD; but that was on his way to the second task, and due to the stress of dealing with Lieutenant Vailani; it should, therefore, the Ensign reasoned, be chalked up to ‘Vailani Factor’.

Gnai: Oh. ::flashing with a bit of apprehension:: This isn’t sure if karaoke is a common practice in Elysium… That’s the ship’s lounge’s proper name.

Tho’Bi:  ::shrugged::

As he did not know the answer, the young engineer opted to stay silent; instead checking he’d shut the engineering kit properly.

Syrex: Thank you, I was curious what everyone meant by that name. On the Ronin, we have the 47. At first I thought the Elysium might be some kind of garden… ::Stared confused at one of the wall panels:: or an apothecary…

Gnai: If you want to do karaoke… there’s always the holodeck?

Regardless of its intended import, the young engineer could not help but answer this observation as a technical engineering question.

Tho’bi: ::nodding:: Yeah (beat) and the holodeck can be programmed with any song in the Federation database. (beat)  ::stops nodding/starts speed-talking:: And we can adjust temperature, gravity, and air pressure, so the musical notes resonate (beat) and are carried by the air like… ::becomes self-conscious of the techno-babble:: they… would… be… on their… home… plan…ets.  ::tilts head:: (beat)  Sorry. (beat)  Too much techno-babble.

Syrex: Yes, thank you Ensign ::sighs::. I have seen a holo-deck before believe it or not. I’m not that much older than you.

The young engineer shuffled backwards and lent his back flat against the wall of the corridor.

Gnai: There’s also always the arboretum, and the Brew Continuum, they’re both on this deck. ::beat:: Not that this has explored those spaces much. Those could be the first destinations on this ::air quotes with its suit:: tour?

The young Andorian once again opted for short answers, if only to rein-in his tendency for techno-babble.

Tho’bi:  Sounds like a plan.  ::smiles::

Syrex: I’d love to see those! We also have a Brew Continuum onboard the Ronin. It would be nice to compare the two.

Gnai: Oh, right, that makes sense… Perhaps even the replicator menus can be compared.

Tho’Bi:  ::snorts in amusement::

Syrex: Well, I’m sure that can be arranged! There’s a Klowahkan back home who’s trying to take over one of the mess halls. So that’ll be an experience… ::Chuckles half-heartedly:: Not that I can ever go!

Gnai: How come…?

This statement left the young Ensign a little lost.  He had occasionally seen Klowahkans travel through Deep Space 3, but knew very little about them.

Tho’Bi: ::Nervously inspects the dents in his Engineering Kit from Lieutenant Vailani’s door::

Syrex: Oh.. It’s nothing, just a minor… Cultural exposure should we say.

Gnai: Cultural… exposure?

Tho’Bi:  Once, on Deep Space 3, the captain of a cargo-hauler exposed himself to my mother while she was fixing a docking clamp.  She threw him off a balcony.

The enlisted had delighted in telling the young Tho’Bi about the ‘thud’ the human made when he hit the decking below.  The captain spent two weeks in the station sick bay.  His mother was a Lieutenant at the time, and was busted back to Ensign.  When asked to write a statement about the demotion, his mother simply wrote two words, ‘worth it’.  By all accounts, when compiling the final report for Starfleet, the Station Commander noted that while the demotion was merited and necessary, she seconded his mother’s statement.

Tho’Bi:  ::nodding to himself::  Wait.. What are we talking about?

Syrex: Response

Gnai: This understands, there’s a lot of food that this can’t eat either. ::beat:: As well as any beverages. ::shudder of tendrils::

Tho’bi:  Yeah.  I can’t have coffee.  (beat)  I’m not allergic (beat) It just makes me really (beat) really really (beat) really really really (beat) hyped.

Syrex: Response

Gnai: Well… that’s part of why this isn’t as well-versed in the social locations aboard the ship as most of the other officers… Sorry to say. ::beat, then a gesture with the suit's arms:: This way, if you'll follow?

Syrex: Response

Tho’bi: ::nods::  oOForgot to smileOo  ::smiles::
