((Azaqu Premium Arena - Slug-nasium - Ferenginar))
On the other side of the archways from the entrance and makeshift training area was an epic arena. The first thing that caught her attention was the holographic advertisements above their heads. Everything was being sold. From Slug-o-Cola to new starship timeshares to luxury cruises to the Delta quadrant to household furnishings to AI operating systems to fruits and vegetables and livestock. Everything.
The brilliant display of colours, creatures and performances each designed to grab your attention but seemingly all synchronised into a seamless performance of their own.
No-one did advertising quite like the Ferengi.
A large creature, somewhere between a targ, an Earth canine, and a snake swooped down towards them. Ava raised her arm as it passed through it while playing a jingle for the arena's main sponsor Azaqu Industries.
Munro: Wow.
MacKenzie: Wow is right…
Ava pointed to a short walk further down a sloped walkway.
Munro: Our seats are right down here.
MacKenzie: Great, let's go sit down. I call the aisle.
Ava raised her hands in a sign of playful deference. Was that a playful excitement she saw building in the redhead? Maybe her bloodthirsty reputation wasn't entirely unwarranted.
Once they made their way down several more rows, they reached their assigned seats and slid in. Ava went first, allowing MacKenzie to get the aisle seat as requested. Before they were fully settled in, the Nausicaan fighter from earlier barged past them. The crowd roared with excitement as they made their way to the ring.
From the opposite end of the arena the Brikarian emerged and raised their hands triumphantly to even more cheers from the baying crowd.
MacKenzie leaned over to Munro and hollered over the cheering.
MacKenzie: Keep your arms and legs inside the row at all times...
Munro: :: emphatic nod :: Understood.
Then the ref who was to call the match - a morbidly obese Bolian - also entered the ring. The two fighters joined him in the middle of the ring, and the ref held up each of their hands to show them off to the crowd to massive cheers.
MacKenzie: I've got 100 credits that says the Nausicaan makes a comeback.
Munro: I fancy the Brikarian. Have you ever tried to punch a wall of stone? I'll see your 100 and raise it to 200?
The captain shrugged with a confident smirk on her face.
MacKenzie: Fine, I'll take that action.
Ava settled in, as the fighters adjourned to speak with coaches, her eye scanned the arena until her eye caught the Ferengi attendant with a cart of refreshments hovering above him. She raised her hand to get his attention.
The loud bell signaling the start of the match chimed, and the Brikarian came out swinging, landing a right hook to the Nausicaan's jaw that sent him down to one knee.
MacKenzie: ::in disgust:: GET! UP!
Ava almost jumped out of her own skin at the sight of the Captain shrieking at the ring. What was a fun low stakes bet for her seemed to be a little more serious for her CO. She gulped, silently hoping that she lost this bet.
MacKenzie: ::flatly, but still yelling:: We should have gotten snacks.
Munro: I'm working on that.
Ava locked eyes with the Ferengi attendant who pushed through the crowd. They came over the hovering cart of goodies glided towards them.
MacKenzie: Response
Ava ordered some wormie like snacks and a Slug-o-Cola, and waited for MacKenzie to order.
Within the ring, the Nausicaan was doing their best to avoid the impenetrable force of the enormous Brikarian… who showed them no mercy.
Ava winced as the Nausicaan was thrown clean over the Brikarian shoulder.
Munro: :: shrugs :: Wall of stone, remember?
MacKenzie: Response
Almost as if it had all been rehearsed the Nausicaan leapt onto the rope and in a very theatrical back flip that spun several times in the air before crashing onto the Brikarians back, flooring both of them.
Even though she had begun to think that the entire thing was an elaborate performance she could help but cheer … then she remembered that she had betted on the Brikarian.
Munro: This game is rigged.
MacKenzie: Response
