Bip!  The Padd signaled again.  He was late.  Padd in one hand and standard engineering kit in the other, the young Ensign rushed along the seemingly endless corridor, counting door numbers downwards from 1785 to 1338.  Bip!  His Andorian temperament got the better of him.  Smack!  It was only for a split second, but a split second was enough.  He brought the Padd up and his forehead down to it; cracking the screen from corner to corner.  He stopped in his tracks and inspected the Padd; the display fuzzed and shuddered, making it all but impossible to read.  Bip!

He had been tasked with ensuring the newly arrived personnel were happy with the environmental and crew support systems of their assigned quarters.  The next quarters on his list, were those of Lieutenant Junior Grade Alyndra Syrex; a medical officer on temporary re-assignment from USS Ronin, born on the planet of Trill.  At 0.98 G, Trill’s gravity was almost identical to Earth’s; and, although not greatly different, at 297 kelvin, its mean temperature was a touch warmer than the 288 kelvin of Earth.  Had the display of his Padd still been readable, the young ensign would have known all this; thanks to his Andorian temperament, he knew none of it.

Having silenced the alarm with his thumb this time, the young ensign jogged the rest of the way; arriving slightly out of breath, he pressed the button for the door chime.  He could feel the rough lines of cracked screen against his thumb.  Swoosh!  The door opened.

Tho’Bi: H-Hey ::Hides broken Padd behind his back:: I’m ensign engineering.  I’m from the Tho’Bi deck ::smiles and nods:: (beat) ::stops smiling looks confused::

Feeling uncomfortable, the young ensign took a look at his Padd.  The screen was a mess of multi-colored pixels.  His eyes scanned it for a moment, trying to look professional.

Tho’Bi: ::puts Padd back behind his back:: I’m here to check your gravity and temperature are okay ::nods:: (beat) in your quarters (beat) that you (beat) live in.
