((Sickbay, Deck 7, USS Artemis))
With Talos by her side and his hand holding hers, Sam was finally starting to feel a calm that she hadn’t felt since before arriving to Sickbay. Doctor Sadar had reassured them both that their babies were okay and the pain Sam was having was completely normal.
Dakora: There’s nowhere else I’d rather be. ::Looking to Gila:: And I’m sure Doctor Sadar would rather you be safe than sorry.
Sadar: ::quiet sigh:: The Commander is correct. During pregnancies, any unnecessary stress caused by undue worry is going to have an effect on the babies’ development as well, so - as medical professionals - we would rather you come see us if you have any concerns at all. ::looks to the display:: As for the pain you’re experiencing, it should cease once your ligaments are properly prepared… ::apologetic half-smile:: For pain relief, I’d prescribe good walks.
Sam nodded in understanding, good walks sounded easy enough. For a small moment she debated asking if any other activities would help, but decided against making the doctor any more uncomfortable than she already was.
The three stayed in an awkward silence for a moment before Talos voiced an apology.
Dakora: Thank you, Doctor. And I’m sorry for any…uh… the surprise of this… situation.
Sadar: Oh, uh, n-no, th-there’s no reason to be sorry, Commander! I-I realize this is, uhh, a very private matter, and we’re definitely not at an intimacy level where this kind of information is expected to be shared, and- ::clams up:: I’m fine.
An apologetic look was all Sam had to offer either of them.
Dakora: It’s not exactly public information yet. It’s a sort of unexpected recent development. I would appreciate your discretion until I figure out just how I'm going to tell the Captain about this…
Sadar: ::clears throat:: W-Well, regardless of your request, Doctor Richards is a civilian, Sir, s-so her patient confidentiality is considered unbreakable providing it doesn’t endanger the Federation. ::looks to the display:: A-And, all things considered, these two look fairly harmless.
Calling two very small babies harmless was almost comical, but Sam couldn’t get over being called ‘doctor’. The situation was already awkward, Sam decided it was a good time to attempt a correction.
S. Richards: Uh, Doctor Sadar? You know I’m not a doctor right? Just a scientist. ::giving a half smile:: Please, you can call me Sam.
Dakora: Response
Sadar: I know? ::blinks in confusion:: W-Wait, ah I see. Uhh… ‘Scientist’ Richards, then. Understood.
‘Scientist Richards’ was by far a much nicer name than what she assumed the Doctor wanted to call her, seeing how uncomfortable she looked with the whole interaction.
S. Richards: ::Shrugging and letting out a small laugh:: That works too. Thank you.
Dakora: Response
Sadar: S-Since you mentioned that you may be closer to 11 weeks pregnant, I should warn you, Scientist Richards: you may experience a pain similar to, uhhh… ‘Period pains’? It’s your womb expanding and thus applying extra pressure to your ligaments and muscles. If this occurs, it’s perfectly normal, but if you experience any bleeding or excessive pain, please come to Sickbay as soon as possible. Understood?
Sam was quickly noticing there was a lot more to being pregnant than she had first realized.
S. Richards: Understood. ::squeezing Talos’ hand looking up at him:: Thank you for being here. I’m just glad they are okay.
Truthfully she was more than glad. If something had been wrong she would have been devastated. Despite the short amount of time she had known about them, there was already a deep connection and a strong love she had for their little beta-beans.
Dakora/Sadar: Response
For a moment as Sam looked up at Talos with a smile spreading across her face, she felt deep in her heart that he truly cared. That aside from all of the unknowns and awkward happenstances- she was lucky. He had already proven he was going to be a great dad. Whether things worked out between them or not, she knew no matter what, he was going to be everything their kids needed.
S. Richards: ::Looking towards Gila:: Can we, maybe, see them again? ::shifting her gaze away:: If it’s not too much trouble…
Dakora/Sadar: Response
As she settled her eyes on the two little beings she began to feel her emotions build.
S. Richards: It still doesn’t quite feel real does it Talos? ::squeezing his hand:: We’re going to be parents.
Dakora/Sadar: Response
