((Kerrit Dromos Park, City One, Rylor))
Munro: Looks like we've got an active investigation.
The perpetrators had an advantage - time. Over 5 hours had passed. She was annoyed that it had taken so long for them to identify that one of the crew had been taken. A matter for her to focus on later. Now, they needed to gather clues.
And the engineering officer approached. His first official shift on duty as a Starfleet Officer, Ava nodded in greeting. Her face must have told the ensign that this was not an opportunity for a meet and greet.
Silveira: Ensign. Vitor Silveira, I wish we could meet under better circumstances.
Tarsan: Commander...s. What are the circumstances?
The tactical chief refocused on the combadge that had been discarded, potentially left to prevent the alarm being triggered.
That meant they intended to take her off the planet, and out of the system. The thought made her sick.
Silveira: I am not sure if their capture took it out, or she left it behind. Either way we should get a reading from the area and start looking for ship movements.
The ensign got to work immediately. Removed his tricorder.
Tarsan: I'm detecting a faint signal. Do we have any leads on who might have taken her?
Munro: We know as much as you do. I want you to triangulate that signal, co-ordinate with Rylor’s Spaceport and find out if any ships left orbit around the time of that transport. I want confirmation that Lt. Vailani was beamed off this planet and I want to know where :: to Silveira :: What do you know about her?
Silveira: I don’t know the Lieutenant all that well. She is a good officer, that much I know. I believe she is a Fleet brat, if I am not mistaken her father is a high ranking officer… She served on the Ronin… And we have to dig more…
Ava nodded. She was aware of General Vailani; they had met on occasion. He was an old sparring partner of her friend Niac’s when they were on Earth. He was known for his extremely strict regulations but seemingly well-respected by most. The kind of man who got stuff done.
Munro: You know as much as I do. She kept herself to herself but her work was always good :: to Silveira :: Get your team to pull her personnel record, find out if there is anything in there that sticks out.
((OOC: you can just indicate that you send them an alert))
Silveira: I will tell you one thing…. Whoever did this certainly isn’t someone who knows us... Nobody messes with the Artemisians…
Ava nodded. As much as she appreciated the sentiment from Silveira, it only made her feel the weight of her error more. She was here a matter of hours ago, enjoying time with the crew only metres away and they had no idea.
Tarsan: Could it be a random kidnapping or do you think she was specifically targeted?
Munro: I would like to know that. It doesn’t feel random. It feels clinical and planned. They beamed her out, no alerts, no witnesses, nothing. Either that was good fortune to know that she wasn't scheduled to return to the ship for hours or they knew it.
Silveira: Not sure… We have too little to know that yet…
Tarsan: The signal's hard to pin down, I can't trace its origin. I think they've bounced it around several relays to make it hard to track. Suggests... planning? Like they knew someone would be looking.
Silveira: Take a Starfleet Officer and everyone will be looking. But that seems certainly planned.
That was Ava’s worse fear.
As Silveira continued looking for more clues in their surroundings she turned to the ensign. What a first day on the job he was having. A missing officer and a meeting with the XO all at once.
Munro: Let’s try and triangulate that transport signal. If we can find the final location it might tell us where we should focus next.
As her PADD chirped with the information sent by Tarsan she pulled it out.
Tarsan: ::lowering his voice:: I think someone's watching us from behind that tree…
It could be nothing. A local on a stroll through the park, drawn out of curiousity to a group of Starfleet officers. Or a witness.
Or a perpetrator.
Silveira: Give me a direction, I don’t see anyone.
Tarsan: Response
She followed the tactical officers lead as he dropped to all fours. She lowered herself.
Munro: What are you seeing Silveira?
Silveira: OK I see it now. It’s a little too suspicious to just be looking at us and at the exact place our missing officer combadge was dropped.
Munro: I agree but we can't assume what the reason for that would be.
Tarsan: Response
Silveira smiled, it was nice to see even now his playful demeanour remained. He turned his head to the others, as he raised his hand as if showing something to the others.
Silveira: How about we break and surround him. ::he smirked at Munro:: I heard you're good at a race Commander, what do you say you go left and I'll go right? ::he turned his hand to Tasan:: We kept the easy part for you Ensign, you run straight at the tree and the suspect…
Ava allowed herself a small laugh, looked at the figure nervously hiding in the trees and stood up. She raised her hands and approached them.
Munro: I'm Commander Ava Munro, of the USS Artemis :: extends her hands peacefully:: Please don't run.
The figure seemed to hesitate for a second before they emerged from the shadows of the trees. He was wearing a dull grey outfit that she recognised as the Rylorian Spaceport uniform. He was young, probably not much older than Harper.
Man: :: nervous :: I'm Khaled Dharan. I … I am Junior Flight Controller of Rylor Spaceport.
Dharan lifted his arms.
Munro: Nice to meet you, Khaled. We're looking for a missing officer of ours? Is that something you can help us with?
Silveira/Tarsan: Response
Dharan: They wouldn't listen to me. A Bajoran transport arrived yesterday, they had no permit to dock and their was inconsistent data in their registration. I … I filed a request with Bajoran authorities :: nervous :: I had no idea she was a Starfleet officer!
Munro: Her name is Vailani Zoyara. Do you know where she is? Is she still on the planet? You won't get into trouble. I promise.
Silveira/Tarsan: Response
She approached the young man carefully, her arms still extended in friendship.
Munro: You can trust us.
Dharan: I thought they were suspicious so while I waited for the checks to come back - which takes a while sometimes - I kept an eye on their movements. They didn't leave their ship. They didn't do anything. No cargo transfers, no passenger boarding or disembarking. That's unusual. There was something wrong about the whole thing. My boss wouldn't listen, he said it wasn't up to us to interfere. He said we should wait for the request to come back. But when they finally left the ship, I followed them. Here.
Silveira/Tarsan: Response
Dharan: I saw them approach the woman, she was Bajoran too. She wasn't wearing a uniform so I just thought she was the reason they were here. I was hiding so I couldn't see properly but I heard them :: smiles proudly :: Flight controllers have good hearing.
Munro: And what did you hear?
Dharan: They said they were the Kosst Amojen. And then they beamed away. I was too late to do anything but I wasn't sure what had happened. When I got back to Spaceport they had already left :: pleading :: I tried to talk to my boss but he wouldn't listen. I promise I didn't know she was Starfleet or I would have done something else.
None of it was good news at all. It confirmed that she had been taken by ship, that meant that she could be anywhere.
Silveira/Tarsan: Response
Ava approached the nervous youngster and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Munro: Listen to me. You did really good. You should be proud of yourself, your instincts were right and you followed them. If it wasn't for you we would be in the dark. Can you take us to Spaceport, we need all the information you have on that ship?
Dharan nodded. She indicated to the others to gather round.
Silveira/Tarsan: Response
