Zoyara had finally arrived for her onboarding medical with Commander Adea, the chief medical officer.
Adea: Right you are, ::nodding to the biobed:: up you get.
Vailani: That's all my notes from Doctor Beck on the Ronin.
She passed the PADD to the Betazoid doctor. He appeared to transfer the notes and then unclipped his medical tricorder.
She looked at the biobed and slid up onto it and reluctantly surrendered to the process. Ever since she was a child, she had struggled with medical assessments. She disliked Sickbay, and in particular the one on the Artemis brought forth memories she'd rather forget.
The booby trap that exploded during the Suliban boarding incident had forced her to spend several days here after surgery.
Adea: Thank you. Can I ask - any issues I should know about? It’s nice to hear them in your own words…
Vailani: No, doctor. I'm as healthy as I've ever been. Maybe the healthiest.
It wasn't exactly a lie but it still felt like one. She followed it up with a careful smile, hoping that the good doctor would leave it at that.
Adea: I’m sorry, Lieutenant, have we met before?
Vailani: Yes … Well, I was an ensign then :: looks around :: I spent some time here after the Suliban boarded the ship, I got caught up in one of the traps. Don't worry I'm fully healed thanks to your team… I have to admit it was part of the reason I transferred back then.
Adea: Response
She nodded towards the doctor.
Vailani: :: nods :: Don't worry doctor. I'm a lot different now, in a lot of ways. Stronger.
Zoyara meant it. Back then she thought she knew it all, while in reality she had no clue. The Bajoran operations officer thought that she could just build up a wall and forge a way forward. She didn't need anything but herself. She learnt the flaws in that thinking and gently she began to allow others into her life.
Adea: Response
Vailani: Last time I was here, you were the first officer. There's a few new faces around but gladly some familiar faces. I'm good friends with Gila, I mean Doctor Sadar - she wouldn't like me being so informal with her superior.
