((Grombria’s office, Palais de la Concorde, Paris))
Grombria was a wild and exuberant member of the Edo, his blond hair slicked back on his aquiline head. He was enthusiastically extolling the virtues of Genkos’ Edo colleague, who didn’t seem too thrilled by the prospect.
Grombria: The homeworld’s all well and good, I’m sure you agree, but there’s something to be said about travel.
The way he said “travel” was vast and grandiose and gave the word’s meaning a status and grandeur that Genkos had never heard in it before.
Adea: Agreed, and I have to say that we all see your colleague here as a member of our family too.
Genkos shot her with what he hoped was a reassuring smile, and she responded to it in kind, before turning back to Grombria. Genkos followed her gaze.
Jovenan: Yes. ::pause:: I’ve seen and experienced so much things I wouldn’t have back in home, and I’ve gained new friends ::vaguely moving hand to Genkos’ direction, who inclined his head in acknowledgment:: and, um, family. It’s… different from what we have home and there has been a lot to learn, but it has been rewarding.
Grombria: Really? Tell me ::he flashed his pearly whites: I want the complete history of Jovenan and her relationship with Starfleet.
Genkos settled into his seat and let the two Edo get on with their discussion.
Jovenan: Well, um, I did go to University of Hurkos first, so I had some experience in fitting in with other cultures. It was more difficult to fit in there than in Starfleet, actually. After a year, I had to take some time off, and I came back essentially pretending to be a human. ::pause:: O-of course, in the Academy, there are plenty of people who experience a proper clash of cultures for the first time.
She looked at Genkos, who nodded - it was a good point, and he was certain it was true. He had studied on Betazed, so it was like home to him, except for all the aliens. Grombria threw back his head and downed the entirety of the drink he was holding.
Adea: Very true.
Grombria: And do you get to see many other of us out there in the cosmos?
Jovenan: Actually, I don’t know. I’ve hardly met another Edo since leaving homeworld.
Jovenan snuck a glance at Genkos, and for a moment, he wondered why. Then he realised the only other Edo he’d known was “just” a Jovenan from another universe. He gave her the tiniest of head shakes.
Grombria: What’s that?
Jovenan: Response
Grombria stood up from his perch on the desk and pointed between the two officers.
Adea: What do you mean?
Grombria: She looked at you, and you shook your head - what’re you communicating? Come on, come on, out with it.
Genkos shrugged as if to say “alright then”.
Jovenan: Response
