((Outside of Alyndra’s Quarters, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A))
Being the “eldest” aboard, at least with regards to time-spent-serving-on-the-Artemis was a weird feeling for Gnai, as it was used to being the most junior officer still… even if that hadn’t been the case for a good while. But, here it was now, acting as a sort of tour-guide to the social areas of the ship, which made it truly feel like a jelly-out-of-water.
Gnai: If you want to do karaoke… there’s always the holodeck?
Not that it wanted to partake in anything like karaoke…
Tho’bi: ::nodding:: Yeah (beat) and the holodeck can be programmed with any song in the Federation database. (beat) ::stops nodding/starts speed-talking:: And we can adjust temperature, gravity, and air pressure, so the musical notes resonate (beat) and are carried by the air like… ::becomes self-conscious of the techno-babble:: they… would… be… on their… home… plan…ets. ::tilts head:: (beat) Sorry. (beat) Too much techno-babble.
Hearing the new ensign gush so unabashedly about holodeck controls and whatnot was endearing, and it bobbed in its tank sympathetically at him. Fellow enthusiasts were nice to meet, even if it was a bit less concerned with all the specifications of atmospheric makeup on the holodeck. It all sounded roughly the same to it, filtered through all the water in its tank anyways.
Syrex: Yes, thank you Ensign ::sighs::. I have seen a holo-deck before believe it or not. I’m not that much older than you.
Gnai: There’s also always the arboretum, and the Brew Continuum, they’re both on this deck. ::beat:: Not that this has explored those spaces much. Those could be the first destinations on this ::air quotes with its suit:: tour?
Those were both a bit… safer in terms of the risk of spontaneous breaking-out-into-song.
Tho’bi: Sounds like a plan. ::smiles::
Syrex: I’d love to see those! We also have a Brew Continuum onboard the Ronin. It would be nice to compare the two.
Gnai: Oh, right, that makes sense… Perhaps even the replicator menus can be compared.
It still wasn’t the best at making jokes, but it hoped that she’d at least pick up on its attempt, poor at that. Of course they’d have a Brew Continuum on the Ronin, and seeing the one on the Artemis would be far less exciting than the rest of the ship! It wasn’t thinking straight.
Tho’Bi: Response
Syrex: Well, I’m sure that can be arranged! There’s a Klowahkan back home who’s trying to take over one of the mess halls. So that’ll be an experience… ::Chuckles half-heartedly:: Not that I can ever go!
It flashed with a bit of befuddlement at that statement. Klowahkan cuisine was notorious for being popular, and it had sampled the few dishes it could try from it to at least some delight, so that was odd to hear at least.
Gnai: How come…?
Tho’Bi: Response
As it had observed many times before, some humanoids did mimic Galadoran emotional-color-signaling, as Lt. JG. Syrex’s face turned a particular shade of red. It wasn’t the right color-to-emotion pairing, but it was an interesting common trait, one of the few things that it shared with humanoids biologically.
Syrex: Oh.. It’s nothing, just a minor… Cultural exposure should we say.
Gnai: Cultural… exposure?
Tho’Bi/Syrex: Response
Well, it knew when to leave enough alone. If that was all she wanted to say on the subject, so be it, it wasn’t going to press harder.
Gnai: This understands, there’s a lot of food that this can’t eat either. ::beat:: As well as any beverages. ::shudder of tendrils::
The less that needed to be said about its sole experience with the horrific humanoid concoction known as “coffee”, the better.
Tho’bi/Syrex: Response
Gnai: Well… that’s part of why this isn’t as well-versed in the social locations aboard the ship as most of the other officers… Sorry to say. ::beat, then a gesture with the suit's arms:: This way, if you'll follow?
Humanoids had this annoying habit of centering much of their socialization around food and beverages, which meant that Gnai felt awkward and out of place much of the time. Not that it was bitter about it, or anything. But it really was a blind-leading-the-blind situation here, as it took the others through the halls of the deck, vaguely in the direction of the Brew Continuum and Arboretum. At least in the latter’s case, it wasn’t based around the social drinking and eating habits of the crew, not that that meant Gnai had much experience with it either.
It really needed to get out more, didn’t it?
Tho’bi/Syrex: Response
