(( The Tritorian wreckage – Ura Neteos III ))

Talos team stood in a dark corridor, face to face with a Meirashi that had followed them into the depths of the ship.

Dakora: Right, we need to establish a dialog before we can start asking questions.

Savel, it seemed had some interesting suggestions.

Savel: If we cannot yet communicate verbally, then we could explore other options. Such as the Human art of pantomime.

The suggestion, of course, was presented with all of the Vulcan sincerity that Talos would expect from Savel, but it still threatened to make him crack a smile.

Silveira: I think we might be getting somewhere. Let's keep talking how we are now and with some luck the UT can start to get a proper translation.

The new Ops Ensign seemed to believe this tack was the way to go and started talking almost immediately.

Bergmen: We are friends. We came to help you and your people.

And that was technically true. Even if they would’ve preferred to help their people in a way that was never detected.

Dakora: Yes. Can you understand us? ::He rephrased.:: Do you know our words?

The Ura Neteos native shifted its gaze between them, reptilian nostrils flaring as it blinked its dark eyes.

Falia:What… doing here? What… saying? Did.. Empress… send?

Talos strained to listen as the series of hissed syllables began to resolve. It was far from perfect, but he thought he could almost follow the conversation with the handful of words he had understood.

Silveira: Is it just me or does she sound curious?

Bergmen offered his opinion next.

Bergmen: I don’t think she fully understands us, as we do not really understand her. But yes. Was curious about something in connection to … us?

Talos kept his face neutral as he turned back to their new friend. He spoke in an even tone, enunciating clearly as he did.

Dakora: We are looking for  ::He placed his hand to his chest.:: others like us.

Again, the Meirashi blinked and began another series of hissed syllables. It seemed like the translator was picking up more of the words now, but he wasn’t sure.

Falia: Why… not injured, …Legend …Where …hide …on …ship, …I …not …find you? Who are you?

It had called the wreckage a ship.

Had it figured that out on it’s own or had it encountered survivors?

With more of the message coming through, the final question was clear enough. He considered his response for a moment before replying, deciding on the standard, scripted response.

Dakora: I’m Commander Talos Dakora of the Federation Starship Artemis and these are my crewmates. We’re looking for the people who were on this… ship. Survivors.

Savel: Response

Falia: Response

It felt like they were getting somewhere now. The introductions continued.

Silveira: I am Sil.

The new guy pointed to himself and spoke.

Bergmen: I am Ki-mi.

Talos’ eyebrow twitched at the odd name choice, but now wasn’t the time to try and decode what Bergmen was up to.

Savel: Response

With introductions handled on their side, he turned to the Meirashi.

Dakora: May I ask who you are?

Falia: Response

Silveira made a gentle bow.

Silveira: A pleasure to meet you.

Bergman did something with his hands and voiced his greeting.

Bergmen: We are honored in your presence.

Savel: Response

This was all moving at a painfully slow pace, but he supposed that was par for the course. Talos tried to keep the conversation moving in the right direction.

Dakora: We’re glad to have met you. Is your settlement– your town nearby?

Falia: Response

Ollie– ever the Ops Officer– seemed focused on making sure their message was being received as intended.

Bergmen: Do you understand our words clearly, as our words would be the same as yours?

Falia: Response.

This response seemed to satisfy Bergmen, as he leaned toward Talos and spoke quietly.

Bergmen: I believe she will understand us enough if we ask about…

All at once, their tricorders and comm equipment began to buzz. The rhythmic pulsing was immediately recognizable to each of them. One of the other teams had triggered a silent emergency signal.

Talos stifled a groan at the newly added complication, even as the Meirashi bristled at the strange noises.

Bergmen: That’s not a threat. That sounds we make if we feel our people are in danger. Don’t worry.

Not for the first time, Talos thought that Bergmen needed to learn when to shut his big mouth.

Talos raised his hands again, palms up in a placating gesture.

Dakora: We don’t think you are dangerous, Falia. All is well. ::He let a little light into his eyes.:: Whoever you found, from this… ship– er, this casting out– could you take us to them?

Falia: Response

Dakora: That would be very helpful. We would be in your debt.

He bowed his head respectfully, then turned to Silveira, whom he hoped had checked on the Emergency signal by now.

Silveira/Savel: Response

The news wasn’t good. If the situation was bad enough that MacKenzie was sounding the alarm, he knew things must’ve gone tango-uniform.

He looked to Bergmen and Savel, then back at Sil.

Dakora: We’re going to have to split up then. Vitor, take Savel and get eyes on the Captain and her team. Unless they’re in imminent danger, I just want you to assess and report back to me.

He shifted his gaze to Bergmen.

Dakora: Looks like you and I will be paying a visit to… ::He looked at Falia curiously.:: Where is it that we’re going?

Falia: Response
