Vitor was backtracking his steps. He had taken his personal PADD to his office by mistake, only realizing it when he wanted to wind down and get some sleep.
Although the console in his quarters had mostly the same information, and he could always ask for the ship’s computer to search or find any data he wished, there was always that habit of reading from the PADD. Instead of listening to the computer audio reproduction.
It’s been another work day and he was ready to get some proper sleep.
The day had actually been a good one. The first since… Since Zie had called them in the middle of the night.
Vitor managed to message Thera and Jonahan in the morning through subspace. Seeing them had raised his mood exponentially. And in the afternoon he got the news that the family would all be together. His parents and grandparents from both sides were all on Earth, in the farm. That meant he would be able to see all of them when he spent a few days there.
Thera already hinted on it when they spoke, but now it was definitive.
And he would selfishly take a week off to be with his son, his parents and godparents.
And Thera. Luckily their relationship had evolved from a failed relationship to a strong friendship. Bonded by the son they shared.
Even more luckily his family got on very well with her. Vitor rolled his eyes as he was certain his mother would start questioning why they weren't back together.
She always loved Thera M’Gia. Particularly the M’Gia part. Jane always dreamed of having her son married into one of the most prominent and important families in Andoria.
Lost in those thoughts Vitor stopped by the turbolift and waited for it to open. When it did he was startled by the scream of its occupant, who had covered her face.
Instinctively he stepped back and raised his hands, recognizing her the next second.
Silveira: Nan… Nan, it’s me…
She withdrew her arms.
Jovenan: Oh, sorry, Vitor. I, um, thought you were something else.
Vitor raised a concerned eyebrow, his first instinct was to step inside and hold her.
Take Nan in his arms and protect her from everything. Keep her close to him and do anything he could to keep her safe.
Keep her happy… Like…
Pushing those thoughts aside Vitor nearly motioned that way, but he quickly dropped his arms, taking a side step.
Silveira: Are you alright Nan?
Nan straightened her uniform again, and forced a smile.
Jovenan: I’m fine. Thank you, and, um, sorry. Good night!
Vitor nearly stopped her there. But he had already been awkward when they were on the turbolift. Was he projecting?
No… He knew Nan longer than Jo. He knew they were as much apart as they were alike.
Again he pushed aside that kind of thinking and tilted his head.
He also forced a smile but he couldn’t disguise the concern in his eyes.
He almost asked to join her. But something froze in his mind and the only thing he was able to say was a meager…
Silveira: Good night.
Nan quickly side stepped him and moved on. He turned his head and almost followed her, but he took a deep breath and turned looking at the empty turbolift.
He stood there for a couple of seconds.
It was the threat on Nan that had managed to made him act on the bridge. Even if then he was “reliving” the moment of Jo’s death.
But it wasn’t Jo he was protecting. It was Nan. And later he had done it again, when he went back for her.
Maybe he should have done the same now?
He almost entered the turbolift when, to his surprise, Nan returned.
Jovenan: Actually, Vitor, would you mind if I joined you? If you’re not busy, of course. I… I could have some company right now.
Vitor smiled and nodded. He tipped his head to the turbolift.
Silveira: I am more than done for the day. And I noticed… I almost followed you but… I didn’t want to impose…
Jovenan: Response
Vitor gestured for Nan to enter and he followed her inside the turbolift.
He began to blush, not sure why but probably remembering what he almost told her…
But then… Then he was thinking of Jo…
With an awkward smile he avoid Nan’s eyes and started talking.
Silveira: How about we go to the Elysium? Not all replictors are working but most of the bottles survived.
Jovenan: Response
He nodded a little too enthusiastically, trying to compose himself.
oO She’s your sister in law… Sort of… Just get a grip you idiot. Oo
Silveira: I… Have… Have you been eating properly?
Mentally he facepalmed himself. What hell of a question was that?
Jovenan: Response
