(( Brew Continuum - Deck 3, USS Artemis - A ))
Brexis: As someone who constantly strives to do better, to be better. I do expect to know if I am not meeting your standards. I expect to be treated as an equal to my fellow officers, to be listened to when problems arise. Most importantly, I expect to be trusted. There is no point in me being here if I don’t have your trust. ::relaxing her shoulders a bit:: From what I have seen and heard about you, ::smirking:: I don’t foresee any of that being a problem.
Once again, Charlotte sat back into her chair and crossed one leg over the other.
MacKenzie: Well, trust is earned. I trust that you can do your job, but I make no assumptions. And you must not have heard enough if you think anyone on this ship manages to slip by with a substandard progress report.
Brexis: I want to be clear I make no assumptions based on what I’ve heard. Your reputation is something I admire. ::giving a half smirk and a shrug:: I just hope you’ll let me sign my name in glitter on the airlock if you find a good reason to send me through it.
She offered a reassuring, yet firm smile.
MacKenzie: Rest assured, Lieutenant, if you're not meeting the bar, we'll either make sure you do, or you'll be reassigned. It's that simple.
And simple, it was. She knew she ran a tough ship - in her mind, there was no other choice.
Brexis: I expect nothing less.
MacKenzie: Very good then, I'm glad we're in agreement. So, what questions can I answer for you at this point? No doubt you're just getting the lay of the land right now...
Swallowing the last bit of her Espresso, Charlotte nodded.
Brexis: I was curious if there was anything specific you wanted me to accomplish before we leave Ferenginar. ::Chuckling:: I don’t like being idle for too long. It makes me think too much.
MacKenzie: Well the unfortunate reality about being the flagship in the Borderlands is that we're the default response for any crises that come up. You've already identified that you'll be working with the other department heads, so familiarizing yourself with each of the major regional factions will be critical prior to our departure.
With a cautious smile, Charlotte raised her eyebrow.
Brexis: I can absolutely do that.
MacKenzie: My previous mission reports might be a good place to start - we've encountered a lot of interesting stuff in our time...
She offered a sympathetic smile. There were a lot of interesting things they'd encountered in the region. Somehow, the commanding officer neglected to mention that there was likely no amount of studying one could do that would adequately prepare them for the on-the-job trials.
Brexis: Well if that’s the case I’m going to need more coffee. You fancy a refill too?
MacKenzie held up her hand.
MacKenzie: I try to limit my caffeine intake after 10, otherwise I start to buzz and the department chiefs get fussy when I come at them with a lot of energy and ideas for new projects.
Brexis: Response
She stood and pointed to the barista counter.
MacKenzie: I'll walk with you if you're going to get more. ::standing, smoothing the front of her uniform:: If you haven't already, I'd start by having a conversation with Lieutenant K'Wara. They'll probably be the most helpful to give you the lay of the land.
Brexis: Response
MacKenzie dropped her empty cup into the dispenser.
MacKenzie: Bergmen is... quirky. But a good officer. I hear he did some good work on our last mission.
Brexis: Response
The commanding officer gave a slight nod.
MacKenzie: If you'll excuse me, I have a few more things to get crossed off my list before some appointments this afternoon. If you need anything or you have any questions as you're meeting the crew and conducting your research, don't hesitate to ask.
Brexis: Response
Offering a smile and a final nod, MacKenzie turned and made her way for the door, wondering for how many more hours she'd be buzzing, and which department head might be the recipient of her excess energy...
