((Alyndra’s Quarters, Compartment 38, Section 13, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A))

Alyndra’s time on the Artemis had thus been short, but densely active. She’d only spend a few nights in her quarters, missing the familiar white noise of her roommate. Alyndra had never slept alone. Her childhood bedroom had been shared, so sharing in Starfleet wasn’t the culture shock that it may have been for many others who’d joined the organisation. Rather she had the opposite problem, since being promoted to Lieutenant JG and being assigned a private room, what was she to do with the space? She’d displayed her toys proudly on the shelves, apart from the cabbage patch T’Fearne doll who laid in her bed.

So many friends in the form of dolls and figurines, yet nobody actually here. Thankfully Starflirt had yielded some company onboard the Artemis. Not in the form of a romantic attraction she was glad to hear. Being a pre-joined Trill, she knew relationships were taboo, seen as primitive, that her mind should be drawn to other matters. She was grateful someone else on the ship felt the same way towards relations with their fellow officers.

The doorbell buzzed, Alyndra got up from her bed, wanting to make a good first impression on a potential new bestie.

Syrex: Enter, please

The door swished open; a rather unusual contraption came into the room. Surprisingly she’d managed to find a friend shorter than the Ronin’s ironically angry Vulcan second officer. The contraption was a rather extraordinary exosuit, housing a water tank as its centrepiece, containing who Alyndra could only assume was Lieutenant Gnai.

Syrex: Lieutenant Gnai, I presume?

Gnai: Response

Alyndra awkwardly reached down to the tank of a rather visually appealing bio-luminescent jellyfish and gave it a short hug, before quickly darting away.

Syrex: Sorry, I hope that’s alright? I’m aware that I’m quite a physically affectionate hugger.

Gnai: Response

Syrex: Oh, I quite agree, please make yourself at home.

Alyndra smiled to Gnai, gesturing to the rest of the room openly, genuinely wanting them to feel at home.

Gnai: response

The doorbell bleeped again.

Syrex: Oh, I’m sorry, were you expecting someone else to be joining us?

Gnai: Response

Syrex: Hmmm, Alright. ::raises voice:: enter!

The door swished open once again, a young Andorian man stood in the doorframe.

Tho’Bi: H-Hey ::Hides broken Padd behind his back:: I’m ensign engineering.  I’m from the Tho’Bi deck ::smiles and nods:: (beat) ::stops smiling looks confused::

Alyndra smiled at him with sympathy, he was clearly nervous and had slipped up his words.

Syrex: Hey, I’m Lieutenant Medical, from the Starship Syrex

Gnai: Response

Whilst he clearly still looked nervous, he flicked through his PADD in a way that almost looked professional.

Tho’Bi: ::puts Padd back behind his back:: I’m here to check your gravity and temperature are okay ::nods:: (beat) in your quarters (beat) that you (beat) live in.

Syrex: Ah, thank you! That’s very kind. Yes, I would rather live in here than slowly die. It is a little cold now that you mention it? I wouldn’t mind a hint more argon in the air and a little less Nitrogen. But I can do without those adjustments if they’re too difficult to.. well.. get going.

Tho’Bi/Gnai: Response

Alyndra smiled at them both, as she sat back down onto her bed to face Gnai.

Syrex: Thanks again for agreeing to meet in here, I haven’t been on the ship long and I don’t know the vibe of the social spaces. I also have bones, which I’ve heard you find interesting.

Tho’Bi/Gnai: Response

Syrex: Hmm, yes. I do get that. Honestly I do think Starfleet needs to be more inclusive to the needs of different species. Including humanoids and non-humanoids. I’m forever reading about some poor Elaysian that’s gotten stuck somewhere because of the gravity.

Tho’Bi/Gnai: Response

Alyndra smiled, looking back around to the ensign who was working on her room’s climate control panels.

Syrex: Actually, it’s why I’m glad you swung by Ensign. I’m glad you’re taking the needs of different species seriously.

Tho’Bi/Gnai: Response
