((Crew Decks - Nova Gamma Borealis))

After Lt. Jg. Sadar had restrained the pirate, and Gnai had relieved him of his possessions (including communicator, which had been its primary goal), Lt. Cmdr. Dakora had motioned Gnai over to the holoprojection equipment. Such a gross abuse of the tourists' time and credits, to fake the spectacles that they were hoping to see. Sure, it might make them happy, but it was false! How could that compare to the real thing? These people would go off, content with what feeble recreations of the wonders of space, and never question that the real thing might be endlessly more interesting to see...

At its crewmates' suggestion, Gnai had started to look around in the files of the holoprojector, searching for anything that they could use to fool the pirates. With luck, the emitters would be powerful and detailed enough to convince them that a real Federation ship had warped in, and they would flee. All they needed was for them not to call their bluff.

And for the right ship to be found. Gnai had been having difficulty finding any modern ships, but buried deep in the files, it had found one that might be convincing enough. The USS Defiant, bristling with armaments. That should work to scare them off, right?

Gnai: Sir, it might take a prohibitively long time to make a recreation of the Artemis... But there’s another ship in here that could be used.

Sadar: ::brief pause:: This could work.

Savel: We will have to hope the sight of a heavily armed ship will be enough on its own to deter the pirates here.

Dakora: Response

Just then, the communicator that had been found squawked to life, crackling in a similar manner as the intercom had previously. Gnai darted upwards in its tank slightly, surprised at the sound.

Communicator: =/\= Shazaak, come in. You’ve missed your check-in. Report now. =/\=

They wanted a response, that much was obvious. But how could they respond to that? And should they?

Savel: I imagine any attempts at a response would immediately clue-in the rest of the pirates of this one’s fate.

Gnai: But would no response be worse...?

Dakora/Sadar: Responses

More static signaled another incoming message to the pirate’s radio. It seemed that Gnai's question had been answered by the pirates as well. No response was just as bad as them faking the pirate's voice. Great.

Communicator: =/\= I’m sending someone to your last position. He better not come back with news you let that oversized blueberry take you down. =/\=

An audible gasp sounded from the Bolian guide, and he immediately charged forward to try and get his hands on the communicator. Gnai was closer to it, and snatched at the device before their guide could reach it. Any trust that it had had for the Bolian had dissipated with the discovery of his fraudulence.

Guide: The nerve! Give me that! I’ll have that brute know this isn’t the first set of pirates I’ve faced down and he won’t be the last! In fact he’s not even the first of his kind that I–

The Bolian clapped his hand over his mouth, trying to keep his secrets inside before they spilled out. Ens. Savel's eyebrow raised in tandem with this, and it seemed like the gears in his head had clicked into place.

Savel: You have dealt with these pirates before? Yet you have not only withheld this information from us but have continued to operate your tours in this sector?

Tours with false promises, tours in dangerous areas of space... Just how far would this Bolian sink in Gnai's estimation today?

Guide: Well n-not exactly. That’s not what I meant. I of course make it my business to know everything about any area of space I intend to sell a tour to. But– ::suddenly turning deviant:: But I won’t say anything else about it! I have to protect the integrity of my business, and I can’t do that going around giving up secrets!

What a slime.

Savel: Regardless of this information, our time here is limited before another pirate arrives. We must engage that holographic image and move if we do not want to risk another fight. ::to Talos:: Commander, I think it would be wise for the Bolian to remain with us. He is a valuable source of information. To both us and the pirates, it would seem.

Gnai: Aye, agreed.

Dakora/Sadar: Response

Guide: Are you taking me prisoner? On my own ship?? ::sputtering:: I'm going to have a very stern word with your superiors, and you're going to be court-martialed so hard... so hard... ::yell of frustration:: I don't even know what! But you'll regret this!

As the guide frothed with indignation, Gnai moved back to the console connected to the holoprojectors. It would be simple enough to set up a timer. As it expired, the fake Defiant would warp in, swing hard starboard, and face the pirate ship with weapons readied. They just needed the pirates to panic, and not to investigate further into if the ship was targeting them or not. Or to realize how out-dated the ship was, a relic from the Dominion War.

Dakora/Sadar/Savel: Response

Guide: You know what, I refuse! I'll take my chances with the New Idrans. ::turning his nose up to the rest of the Starfleet officers, then sitting down on the floor, arms crossed:: At least they're honest about when they take a man prisoner.

Dakora/Sadar/Savel: Response

Gnai worked as they discussed, adding finishing touches to the little program. It set a stopwatch on its suit's chronometer to count down along with the console, so that they could know exactly when they could spoof a hail from the other ship and let someone else work their intimidation magic.

Gnai: Timer set... It would be prudent to leave, would it not?

Dakora/Sadar/Savel: Response

Following the others, and their reluctant Bolian guide, Gnai couldn't help but feel watched as they crept further down the cramped corridors that snaked around the edges of the spacious observation decks of the ship. If they were to come upon a pirate here, it wouldn't be pretty. For whom, it wasn't certain. They had the same guns as the pirates. Whether that was a good thing or not, remained to be seen.
