(( Underground Tunnels - Kurtûl III))
Several minutes ago they had picked up the Starfleet Officers Life signs, and she had visual confirmation that one of them was MacKenzie. That made Eos pause. She had studied Starfleet protocol, along with many other species', as a requirement of her training. Best prepared was the way of people.
What would be so important is that a starfleet captain went against their own protocols to come in person to this planet. She doubted that MacKenzie had lied to her. Everything she had heard about the woman and Starfleet told her that they avoided subterfuge. Noble in its way.
When her two scouts returned they spoke of a secret room, something that resembled a laboratory and Starfleet bumbling around.
Eos: :: frustrated :: Starfleet are making a fool of themselves, running around with phasers and tricorders. They'll likely expose us all.
Eos sighed.
Eos: We have no obligation to protect Starfleet, even from themselves :: another frustrated sigh accompanied by a glare :: But I'd very much like to know what's so important for a flag Captain to come to the surface of an alien compound in Nascaik space. Audacious and foolish.
She guided them along slowly, carefully following the life signs. lifting her hand to slow her team down as they approached.
There were voices. Alien. Then they came through clearer as they stopped.
Bancroft: Are you with the Nasciak?
Eyes flickered towards her. They heard the same tone she heard. The quiet accusation, as if somehow the Nascaik had no right to be here. In their own space.
It coiled into a part of her so deep. The Thama had spoken of them in much the same way. As if the very existence of Nascaik was an offense to them. Her hand curled into a fist.
Eos: :: whispered :: Move forward.
Eos signalled for the team to progress, which took them down a thickened corridor, blocking off the discussion of the team around them. She paused. It was clear that Starfleet had made, in their minds at least, the Nascaik their enemy. She still had no desire to see them hurt, her own personal grievances aside, and that meant having to move forward BUT she would not tolerate the shame of being outmaneauvered by them.
Eos: Tori and Fu :: they stepped forward, her more proficient officers :: Go back and loop around. Do not engage :: she looked towards Barris :: Barris, you go in the other direction.
That left her and two others, one of which was the scientist and the other the archivist - her former duty before the contamination. She could tell this upset Tori, Fu and Barris. Yet they obeyed, they knew better than to doubt her. She pushed forward and then they began to hear the muffled voices of the Starfleet officers again. Their steps slowed.
oO oh they are trying to be quiet, finally Oo
Scientist: :: whispered, barely audible :: Dota. They can detect us, the jamming has ceased in this section.
She could hear the fear in the scientists voice, his first mission and the beginning of his mandatory tour on a military vessel.
And they had been detected. So, it was true.
Starfleet wished to be their enemy. MacKenzie had proclaimed that they sought justice, the highest tenet of all. And now, she was here. Eos felt a burning rage erupt inside of her and then took a breath.
Rage is the fire that forges our truth. Truth is strength, victory and justice.
Above all else. The sacred prayer.
Eos: Let them come. They think we are fools, let us give them fools.
Instructions were given. They waited. They listened. They idled.
Bancroft: ::barely audible whisper:: Ready.
Eos turned, and she smiled politely. The man who had spoke, the aggressive one, was neither gold or red. Merely a blue. Human, with hair on head and face. There was another blue. Bajoran, with hair on head. Then a woman, in gold. Hair on head.
Then, there was she. MacKenzie. Smaller than she had imagined, less presence than she had built up in her head. Eos thought that she would destroy her in one swipe.
Eos: Captain, are we your enemy now?
Eos smiled, and turned to the archivist, an elderly female.
Eos: Let the records show that I, Dota Bundara Eos did not raise my arms in violence first. As the laws of the Nascaik Defence Coalition state: If another raises their weapon or their arms against thy in violence, then retribution must be paid.
The archivist nodded and inputted the information into her PADD.
Cole/MacKenzie/Jaran/Bancroft: Response
Eos: Interesting, I don’t see a ship in these tunnels? Have you forgotten your pledge to me, Captain? Our agreement was made and our laws are clear. There are no grey areas in Nascaik law. No loopholes for you to jump through. Only those weapons raised against us :: smiles :: And ours of course.
Eos nodded and behind the Starfleet team stood her three officers, undetected. They stepped from the shadows as if they had melted from the walls themselves. Weapons raised and pointed towards the Starfleet crew.
Cole/MacKenzie/Jaran/Bancroft: Response
Eos: I suggest you return to your ship. By our laws, I could take your blood for your violence and your prejudice against my people :: sighs :: Let the record show that Dota Bundara Eos was merciful: Mercy met with condemnation and prejudice is un unresolvable shame. Retribution must be paid. If a war comes of this, it will be the Federation that bears the blame. Not the Nascaik.
