(( Holodeck 3 – Deck 3, USS Artemis-A ))
What better way to get to meet a new colleague than under phaserfire? Vhysa’lia had little idea what sort of program “Phaser Training and Re-Certification” might entail, but she’d been lightly prodded to do so by the computer system, which had seen the lack of any sort of Starfleet weapons training on her file as an error that needed correction, what with her new status as a (provisional) officer. Who knew when they might find themselves under fire, and would need to rely on a much more aggressive form of diplomacy?
So, Vhysa’lia had decided to kill two birds with one stone (a morbid turn of phrase that she’d picked up in her brief time aboard the ship), and request assistance from one of the newest members of the crew, in lieu of properly meeting her in an office, or at the ship’s bar. It would certainly be a memorable first impression, hopefully one where this Lt. Storm (whoever she turned out to be) would be at least a little impressed. Probably not very impressed, but from interacting with Dr. Sadar (conveniently gone now… not that Vhysa’lia had really bothered to pry much into it), she had seemed, well, skittish. If one extrapolated that to even a fraction of the rest of the Medical department… any skill with a weapon from a doctor might potentially come off as impressive.
Anyhow, phasers couldn’t be too different from phased polaron weapons, she hoped. It wasn’t as if the Kobali Medical Corps had expected their doctors to go about unarmed and undefended in potentially hostile situations. Not… everyone was delighted to see them.
But she wasn’t with the Kobali at this time, so any thoughts about that would have to be put swiftly out of mind, so that she could focus on the tasks at hand. Passing this busywork task, and meeting the new crewmember. The lieutenant had instructed them to meet at one of the Holodecks on the ship, and Vhysa’lia now stood there, inside Holodeck 3 ready for whatever was going to happen. Still targets, moving targets, combat scenarios… who knew!
Storm: Response
Vhysa’lia: Oh, it’s wonderful to meet you face to face, Lieutenant! Communicating over PADD messages to schedule this just isn’t the same. ::holding out hand for a handshake:: Provisional Lieutenant Junior Grade Vhysa’lia, here for my phaser training.
Same as always, she tried to greet most humanoids with a handshake. The grand majority had taken it in stride and appreciated the gesture. Some of the non-humanoid species, they’d taken to maybe offering a little bow, or nod of the head.
Storm: Response
Vhysa’lia: I’ve had a bit… but it seems that the Starfleet systems would rather that I brush up on my skills anyways, at least to get it into their records that I won’t be completely useless on any away teams that I might find myself assigned to.
They flashed their typical smile at Lt. Storm with that, wondering how she would take the joke. The reactions to her attempts at keeping conversations light aboard the Artemis had varied, for sure.
