((Sunset at Temtibi Lagoon - Risa))
Gila was not not excited? Considering that her excursion to ‘Sunset at Temtibi Lagoon’, an establishment very bluntly named for the very thing that made it famous, was basically enforced upon her by a superior officer, who fully well knew that she was unlikely to visit the planet on her own, that was about as well as could be expected. Thankfully, Vai-net, her very good friend who had returned to the Artemis-A in the official capacity of Chief of Ops, had agreed to join her, which did make her slightly more at ease with the situation.
And as the two women beamed down to the planet’s surface, immediately faced with a sheltered lagoon, filled with beautiful glimmering water reflecting the setting rays of the two Risian suns, Gila’s mind was immediately attempting to distract itself from the other Risian traditions and customs by deep-diving into scientific babble.
Vailani: Gila-net … it's so … it's beautiful.
Sadar: It really is! The research documents conducted by local biologists state that the light of the suns gets absorbed during the day by algae in the water, and then once we’ve passed sunset, the algae continue glowing for a couple of hours. ::references her PADD:: They do say that the effect is most visible during the colder months... I wonder why? Perhaps there’s some studies I could-
Dakora: Response
Gila did a full surprised jump at this voice, and she hastily turned about to face Lt. Commander Dakora, who was dressed in a far more vacation-ey get-up than she was accustomed to. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen a senior officer out of uniform, obviously, but the lack of uniform on her part made her all-the-more anxious about what was coming.
As too did the tray of cocktails that Lt. Commander Dakora was holding out towards them. The glance that Vai-net sent her spoke more than a thousand words - Are they for us!? - and Gila was certain the anxious state that this prelude to a night of suffering inspired within her was more than visible on her face.
Sadar: S-Sorry Commander... ::accepts the drink: A-And, uhh, th-thank you. For the, uhh, ‘suggestion’.
Vai-net too accepted a drink.
Vailani: :: takes a sip a little cautiously :: Thanks.
Dakora: Response
Following Lt. Commander Dakora, the trio walked down a torch-lit path, clearly deliberately set up to guide any potential visitors to the ‘main attraction’ as it were, and in spite of the Lt. Commander’s previous words, Gila found her scientific curiosity getting the better of her again, as she actively made calculations as to how long remained before the algaes’ light-emitting properties would be visible to the naked eye.
She didn’t have to wait long, as they hadn’t even made it to the lagoon proper before the algae started glowing.
Vailani: Have you spent much time on Risa, mister Dakora?
Dakora: Response
The evidence to that fact was clearly visible on the sunkissed hue the Lt. Commander’s skin had taken, and Gila found herself tightening her lips slightly. As a member of a species who was covered from head-to-toe in ceremonial robes for most of their life, she found the complete disregard many other humanoid species treated their skin condition with deeply concerning.
Sadar: I hope you’re minding proper skin coverage, Sir. While skin cancer no longer poses the danger it once did, the sun’s rays - particularly those of binary suns - does severe damage to unprotected skin-
Vailani/Dakora: Response
Sadar: Mmrph...
The three of them had now reached the edge of the lagoon, where many visitors to the establishment, likewise with drinks or other sources of nourishment and inebriation, had started enjoying the warm water of the lagoon itself. Gila’s brow ridges shuddered slightly with dismay at the fact that they would be disturbing the algae, likely leading to a lesser viewing experience, but she was also aware that this was how the establishment technically recommended one enjoy the spectacle.
Vailani/Dakora: Response
Sadar: W-Well, I, uhh... I swim... ::realizes how lame that sounds:: I-I mean, I’m a decent swimmer. Mizarian school children do multiple summer excursions to the oceanic bluefarms, so it’s obligatory for us to learn how to swim.
