((Jefferies Tube, Deck 5, USS Artemis))

Isolinear chip goes out, isolinear chip goes in.

Jozial had been excited to hear her first mission on the Artemis was going to be a drill with tactical manoeuvres, intruders boarding them and firefight inside and outside the ship. She had prepared to be given a phaser and go on rampage against the other team, or at least man a station on the bridge and shoot the other ship off the nebula.

Biolinear gel pack goes out, biolinear gel pack goes in.

But no. Those were jobs for the officers and security. “Your job’s even more important”, they had said. Somebody needed to do the routine maintenance while the others were too busy with the drill. And that somebody was Crewman Third Class Renirs. And obviously the work needed to be done in a crampy Jefferies Tube.

Hyperspanner goes over, hyperspanner goes under.

The ship shook. It had happened a few times already, but stuck in the Jefferies Tube, Jozial had little chance to know if they had been hit by a torpedo or if they had run into a meteor or something. She had decided to ignore the ruckus and focus on her work. The supervising petty officer would kill her if they found Jozial had been slacking on her first real solo job.

Suddenly, the gravity went off.

Renirs: Oh for…

Her body raised from the deck, and she hit her back to the low ceiling of the tube. The isolinear chips, packed nicely into a box, spread all across the tube, hanging in the air in every possible orientation and height. Chips rolling in the air and her long, red hair blocked much of her vision. The used biolinear gel pack went airborne as well, and Jozial tried grabbing it mid-air but inadvertently broke the cover. The pack burst, and the previously enclosed gel gushed out in floating bubbles. The gel bubbles sticked everywhere: the walls, the circuitry and the crewman’s face.

Renirs: ::disgusted, frustrated:: Godda—!

Another sound. Somebody further back on the tube opened a hatch. Jozial stopped and tried listening to what was happening. She heard muffled voices behind a corner or two.

Dakora: Let’s go! Through here!

Osuna/Jones: Response?

Some people were coming in. Jozial couldn’t see them or recognize their voices but quickly came into conclusion it must be senior staff engaged in the drill. They must also be responsible, at least in part, of the chaos in Jozial’s part of the tube.

Dakora: Damn it. I’m hit too!

Osuna/Jones: Response?

She had been given simple instructions: go to Jefferies tubes, swap old biolinear gel packs, follow the manual, go the next subprocessor and repeat. But now her equipment was in disarray and covered in goo, without her fault, and the officers were disturbing her anyway. So clearly she couldn’t continue with the instructions. Obviously, nobody could blame her leaving her post now. And while not given any duties for the drill, she was formally as much a part of it as anyone else on the ship; her combadge shone in green indicating she was still in game.

She smirked. Were they on her side or in the other team? Didn’t matter. She didn’t have a phaser, but she didn’t really need one either.

Renirs: ::quietly, trying not to alarm the hiding officers:: Computer, will hitting someone in the head count as damage in the drill?

Computer: Blunt trauma caused with an improvised weapon can cause injury or death in the drill mode, however, for safety reasons, a light pat with the object is rec…

Renirs: Got it! ::grabs the hyperspanner:: It’s time to whack some skulls in!

Dakora/Osuna/Jones: Response?
