(( Captain’s Ready Room - Deck 1, Artemis-A ))

MacKenzie sat perched behind the desk in the captain’s ready room. She mused over the recent transfer of personnel on and off the ship – Ava Munro, Roy Bancroft, Natasha Cole…

Gila Sadar.

The commanding officer of the Artemis rolled her eyes and shook her head. There was absolutely zero use in any further contemplation about the Mizarian’s motives for her subterfuge. She lied, she violated the law, and she was now someone else’s problem. It was a shame, but she knew that cutting the junior medical officer loose was the right thing to do. Now, she had the opportunity to welcome another new officer on board – brighter days, to be sure.

The chime rang.

MacKenzie: Come in!

A dark-haired woman in operations gold strode into the room, stopped in front of MacKenzie’s desk and stood at attention. When the woman spoke, she did so methodically and easily, as though this was just a routine part of her day.

Storm:  Lieutenant Storm reporting as ordered, Captain.

MacKenzie: At ease, Lieutenant.

The Betazoid woman relaxed, clasping her hands behind her back. MacKenzie picked up the PADD containing the new officer’s duty assignment orders and service record. She was assigned to fill a vacancy in their tactical department.

Storm:  Yes, Sir.  Thank you for taking the time to meet with me.

MacKenzie: No trouble at all. Welcoming new crew members aboard is one of the things I enjoy most. ::referencing the PADD:: I see here that you’ll be filling our vacancy in the tactical department?

Storm: Response

MacKenzie: Very good. Any particular reason you applied for the position?

Storm: Response

She nodded affirmatively. With mid-ranking officers, MacKenzie didn’t feel the need to be quite so interrogative during their onboarding sessions. In general, by the time an officer reached the rank of Lieutenant, she was of the belief that they’d cut their teeth and knew the rules and expectations of service in Starfleet. They’d generally been tried, tested, and persevered through a variety of difficult situations. This was generally not true of many of the new recruits they got fresh from the Academy. They got the full workup.

MacKenzie: I see. Have you familiarized yourself with the Borderlands? We have some unique astronomical phenomena that can make things pretty tricky.

Storm: Response

She nodded affirmatively again.

MacKenzie: And have you had the chance to meet with our Tactical Chief Lieutenant Silveira yet?

Storm: Response

Tag, and TBC!
