Genkos spoke softly to Bergmen, who seemed a little distracted. A least the Betazoid thought so - it was difficult to know he could just reach out and read the man’s thoughts to know precisely what he was thinking, but decorum as well as Betazoid rules forbade it. It wasn’t very often Genkos felt like he wanted to do it, but he found the ensign hard to parse.
Adea: If you could do anything to relax, what would it be?
Bergmen: I don't know exactly. Something calm, peaceful, and without people. Something relaxing, like a spa or massage. ::biting his lip:: No, not massage, my sore back is asking for a chiropractor.
Genkos raised a pale, slender finger and pointed it directly in Bergmen’s direction.
Adea: Ah, that I can help you with. Pop by sickbay and ask for an appointment with Kafkazet - their fingers can work magic.
Bergmen: Yea, that sounds good. I will…
Bergmen’s badge beeped and the man visibly straightened, and it might have been Genkos’ imagination but he could have sworn some of his vertebrae popped in the effort.
Bergmen: ::visibly scared:: I’m sorry, sir. My break is over, and I need to go. Thank you for the recommendation, the talk, and everything. See you around.
Adea: My pleasure, Ensign.
Ensign Bergmen rose from the table and took a few steps before turning back and quickly returning to Genkos, who gave him a warm smile. Bergmen promptly picked up his plate of unfinished food, gave an apologetic smile to the commander, and ran to the nearest replicator. Genkos watched his retreating back with a wry smile - he was reminded of something an old friend used to say to junior officers… “I don’t bite”.
