(( Transporter Room 1 - Deck 4, USS Artemis-A ))

Sadar: I-I’ve read up on what sparse information we have on Galaris IV while preparing the medkits. In almost all aspects, it’s a standard Class M world, with the one caveat that its oxygen concentration is thinner than average. It’s nothing that should prove hazardous to our health, b-but I wouldn’t recommend strenuous exercise while planetside.

It was odd for Starfleet to not have more information than as such for a planet that they had encountered previously, but considering that the war between the Kobyar and the Grunden had been going on for decades, that might’ve been sufficient reason for previous Starfleet efforts to keep a distance. They would have to make do with what they had and adapt with the flow in regards to everything else.

Gnai: This will be fine, at least!

The Galadoran within the exosuit certainly had one up on the humanoid members of the away team, Gila had to admit.

Vailani: :: unsure :: Everyone should check they have everything they need. We may be on the surface for some time and the Grunden don't have replicators.

Sadar: Y-Yes Vai-net...

Gila double- and triple-checked the medkits that she’d brought along. While she knew what was supposed to be in the standard-issue medkits, the trauma response kits were slightly different, and while Gila was fairly certain she could assemble one from memory, she still felt the need to check that she hadn’t accidentally missed the triage emitters or the portable emergency field.

Not standard for medkits, but very important when deploying to an active crisis zone.

Tho'Bi/Dakora: Response

Gnai: Are there any other final preparations to be done before beam-down? This is ready to go…!

Gila was about to acknowledge that she’d completed all the necessary preparations, when the door to the transporter room slid open, and a young-looking (as much as Gila could place despite that headful of red hair) humanoid female entered.

(( OOC: Welcome to the USS Artemis-A, Ensign Natasha Cole! From this SIM, she’ll be joining our Away Team, so I’ve included tags for her to get her into the action! ))

Cole: Response

Sadar: Oh, uhh... ::mentally runs through recent transfer orders for name:: W-Welcome Ensign Cole. N-No, you’re, uhh... R-Right on time.

While Gila wasn’t sure why the decision had been made to send Ensign Cole with them today, she was very pleased with the addition of an actual security officer.

Tho'Bi/Dakora/Cole: Response

Vai-net nodded a confirmation to the group once everyone were certain they had packed all the essentials, just as the Transporter Chief chimed in.

Transporter Chief: Sirs, there's been a last minute alteration to the beam down location. General Kexxin has requested you meet him at the Grunden Base Camp before you go to the city?

Vailani: :: under her breath :: Typical military…

Sadar: B-B-Base Camp!? ::blinks:: A-As in... The front line?

oO Okay. Now I’m very happy Ensign Cole’s coming along. Oo

Cole/Tho'Bi/Dakora/Gnai: Response

Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do about the last-minute alteration to beam down location. Even if they decided to beam to the previously agreed location of the Grunden Capital City, it wasn’t like the General would be there to greet them.

(( Grunden Base Camp - Kydon ))

When the blue glimmer disappeared from Gila’s eyes, the group had materialized in the centre of a base camp. A large wall surrounded them - built? Or holographic? - and a large collection of burlap tents that, despite their seemingly archaic materials, showcased astonishing architectural cunning. In the centre of the camp itself was a large tent which dwarfed some actual buildings Gila had seen on other alien worlds, and even Mizabet itself, and one look at her fellow officers told her that teh general presumption was that this was the command center.

Vailani: So far so good. This is a well organised base camp :: nods to the holo rocks :: And well defended.

Sadar: Tents... ::considers:: M-Maybe a strategy to circumvent resource dwindling? If the Kobyar’s air superiority is as pronounced as the brief suggests, more permanent base camps might, uhh... N-Not be a good idea.

Cole/Dakora/Gnai/Tho'Bi: Response

A pair of Grunden officers approached them and with no words made a clear indication that they were there to escort them to the General.

Vailani: I guess we're going that way.

Cole/Dakora/Gnai/Tho'Bi: Response

While Gila had encountered many aliens in her time in Starfleet, she still struggled when encountering aliens so completely covered in hair and bristles. She’d eventually - through a lot of practice - learned how to interpret Caitian microexpressions thanks to her continued association with Artist Lorana, but Grundens were likely entirely different.

She almost wanted to groan.

oO Aliens! Oo

Just before the group entered the Command tent itself, something made Gila’s nuchal folds go cold. If prodded, Gila likely couldn’t have answered why she looked back at that moment, but one might call it a doctor’s instinct. Regardless, Gila looked over her shoulder just as a flap in one of the far tents moved and noise travelled across the camp itself.

The medical tent.

And it was busy.

(( Command Centre - Grunden Base Camp, Kydon ))

Entering the Command Centre really made it strike home for Gila that the Grunden had found an unprecedented way of wedding rustic practicality with modernity. The tent was massive, of course, but more so, it was the extent with which the Grunden had managed to incorporate portability into their warfare technology. She could only presume this was a development that they had been forced to take due to the long war with the Kobyar... Everywhere around her, she saw holographic maps, hovering data nodes allowing for instant communication across the front lines and half-assembled drone technology.

It was only on closer inspection that she realized that the drones didn’t match the rest of the Grunden technology in appearance. It had to be Kobyar.

Kexxin: Response

Gila looked up when she saw a serious-looking - at least, she presumed so? - Grunden head towards them from further within one of the cordoned off areas of the command tent, and she followed Vai-net’s lead as she bowed her head.

Vailani: Thank you General for hosting us.

Sadar: ::twists anxiety band twice:: I-It’s nice to meet you, General. I-I’m Doctor Sadar. ::wrings her hands slightly::

Cole/Dakora/Tho'Bi: Responses Gnai/Vailani: Responses

Kexxin: Response

Eyeing a chance to ask a question that had been bothering her since they were outside, Gila wrung her hands together again.

Sadar: Is that why your medical tent was in such an uproar?

Cole/Dakora/Tho'Bi: Responses

Gnai/Vailani: Responses

Kexxin: Response

Sadar: W-We sympathize, General, b-but you understand we’ve received our own instructions? W-We were supposed to meet back in your capital city. The situation is hardly ideal.
