Vitor had taken a few steps, but remained at eyesight of both Dariell and Tho’Bi,
he kept his smile and pulled out his own tricorder and leaned down, as if he
was showing something to Cole. He whispered so only she could hear him.
Silveira: Ensign, have you noticed that it is quite a quiet Engineering
room?
Cole: ::matching his tone/volume:: I have. And after watching Dariell
work that set of consoles in the computer core, I suspect while experienced,
they wouldn’t be running a department with such limited numbers, not for a ship
of this scale.
She made a point to gesture towards Vitor’s tricorder and nod continuing their
cover.
Silveira: Well observed. Anything else?
Cole: Yeah their comment about the light’s calming my mind has me
concerned as well. Think we could run a passive scan to see if it’s some kind
of phototherapy?
Silveira: Please do, but discreetly.
Cole: Sir, whatever’s going on, I don’t think we’re being misled for our
harm. This feels more like an omission for safety. Hopefully I have garnered us
some good will in that regard… but we need to factor it into our risk
assessment.
Silveira: I heard your chat with
Dariell, but I didn’t want to have them thinking I was eavesdropping so I
didn’t see his body language. He did appear confused in his replies.
Run that scan and we will see how to progress. Now let’s get back to them
Cole: ::nodding;; Yes sir.
She pulled
the Tricorder from its holster, keeping that side away from the two now bonding
engineers and set her tricorder to run a silent passive scan, before returning
it to its holster and following the Chief
Tho'Bi: ::smile disappears:: I do
have another concern, though.
Natasha stayed close, but made sure to keep an eye on the tricorder making sure
it’s scan was still going,
Silveira: Another concern, Ensign?
Tho’Bi turned and almost stood in attention.
Tho'Bi: ::deliberate:: Lieutenant
Commander, I am registering elevated levels of Theta Radiation.
Silveira: Please elaborate.
Natasha’s
attention snapped to focus on Tho’Bi at the mention of Theta Radiation. Did
this mean their drill during shore leave was eerily timed?
Tho'Bi: The levels are not dangerous
as yet ::beat:: but I recommend that you and Ensign Cole set your Tricorders to
scan for Theta Radiation ::beat:: in case the levels increase.
As Vitor turned towards her, she instinctively pulled her tricorder leaving her
passive scan run as she started honing in on Theta Radiation.
Silveira: Ensign set a new scan for
Theta Radiation and it’s source. ::he tipped his head to Dariell:: I am sure
you don’t mind Dariell.
Cole: ::tapping into her tricorder::
On it.
Dariell: Nothing to worry, it’s
just… ee, same residual from our… eeeh, a warp core waste product tanks. It’s
safe.
Tho'Bi: The Theta Radiation is too
low to be a warp core breach ::beat:: it could indicate other containment
problems ::hesitation:: but… it the most likely explanation is the use of
antimatter based weapons ::beat:: such as photon torpedoes or similar
technologies.
Silveira: Keep up scanning and give
me some results Ensigns.
Tho’Bi: Response
Cole: Yes Sir. ::looking over her
scans:: I might have something … ::as she walked around as if following a trail
that was invisible::
As she walked around the room, she heard the familiar chirp of a combadge. She
continued her scans as she swept the area.
Munro: =/\= Munro to Away Teams =/\=
Vitor, raised his hand extending a finger indicating he wished for some privacy.
((OOC: keeping
the com chatter in for pacing.))
Silveira: =/\=Silveira here.=/\=
Jovenan: =/\= Response =/\=
Munro: =/\= How are things on the
colony ship? =/\=
Silveira: =/\= We have made some
repairs. Engineer Dariell has been very welcoming and helpful, although I sense
they aren’t telling us everything. Ensign Tho’Bi managed to get both of the
ship’s computer cores in sync and we are currently in their Main Engineering,
although we have detected Theta Radiation above normal values and are looking
into it. =/\=
Jovenan: =/\= Response =/\=
Munro: =/\= The situation seems to
be a little more complex than we first thought. The Yurum Sectarian Faction
have requested asylum. =/\=
Silveira: =/\= Asylum? Are you
considering it, Captain? =/\=
Jovenan: =/\= Response =/\=
Munro: =/\= I haven't made a
decision either way. I'm hoping that you can gather more evidence. I don't need
to stress the importance of this request to either of you. Thank you, Munro
out. =/\=
Natasha noticed the Chief looked more serious as he returned to the group.
Dariell: Any bad news, Lieutenant
Commander Silveira?
Silveira: No… Just news… Curious
news…
Dariell/Tho’Bi: Response
Cole: Curious news confirming a theory
or … countering it, Sir?
Vitor looked to Dariell first, and then back to Cole and Tho’Bi.
Silveira: Their Leader just
requested Asylum.
Natasha nodded at that news; it was good to have her suspicions confirmed, though she did make sure to watch Dariell’s reaction to that proverbial penny drop.
Cole: And our orders Sir?
Dariell/Tho’Bi: Response
Silveira: Response
Natasha’s tricorder beeped that its Theta Radiation scan was done. Looking down she furrowed her brow. That was not something she was hoping to find, especially after the news of their new friends seeking Asylum.
Cole: It appears the Theta Radiation that our scan’s picked up ::beat:: are the result of sabotage. ::turning her tricorder towards Tho’Bi to confirm:: Comparing these, which I am presuming are their version of Theta-band Subspace Transceivers, one of them appears to be the source of the radiation.
Dariell/Tho’Bi: Response
Silveira: Response
Cole: At first I thought it might be possible collateral damage from the attack, but that is unlikely since we’re not near the hull of the ship. ::directly to Silveira:: Sir, this doesn’t feel like system failure. If this were the Artemis, I’d be calling it sabotage. We should at least plan for that possibility.
Silveira: Response
Dariell/Tho’Bi: Response
