How damn hard is it to keep the bad guys out of the ship?

Jozial jumped behind a corner, a phaser rifle resting on her hips and her finger halfway through pulling the trigger. She eyed over the corridor in a few sweeps, turning her entire upper body and the muzzle of the rifle with her sight to verify that this corridor, like the previous one, was entirely unoccupied. What a pity.

It had been mere months since the officers had, yet again, taken all the credit for repelling the pirates their incompetence had invited in. The entire bunch of the senior officer had received some striped ribbon and a few extra ones for the worst swots, meanwhile all Jozial had got from that delightfully deadly adventure was a talk down by the Supervising Petty Officer – and a date with a cool girl, but that’s beyond the point. She wasn’t making the same mistake of letting the officers scoop up all the honour for themselves!

Another corner. Empty. Rats.

She really wanted to ice a few alties with her rifle – entirely legally acquired one – but they seemed to keep mostly to themselves. It was set to level 3, or “heavy stun” in officer language and the “big bonk to the head” among friends. She also had strapped an altie pistol to her belt, after all, the person she had taken it from probably wouldn’t be needing it anymore. Maybe she could keep it.

Funny people these alties. They were obviously the bad guys since the day one, but the officers still let them roam freely aboard the ship since they really liked hearing their own voices. Jozial wondered how many of them invited their own altie to their quarters. Jozial’s altie wasn’t on the Dessdemon, she had had it checked. Even in an alternate universe, she was smarter than the officers of this universe and kept her distance from those bonkers. Sure, the Shints did some weird stuff to Trills in that universe, but it certainly wasn’t that…

Another corner. Empt… No, wait!

Renirs: Freeze, you little piece of mother…

Except that the target wasn’t moving much. The man was almost still, looking at his hand for some reason. He looked like he could be one of their officers, but with how many alties there were, she had to stop to consider. She didn’t want to waste energy charge on her rifle, after all. Sometimes it was better to shoot and let somebody else sort them later, but this man didn’t seem to react too aggressive. At a closer look, Jozial noticed his blood-soaked jacket.

Renirs: Darn, you alive? I didn’t do that, by the way.

J Kader: Response?

Jozial stepped a bit closer to the corner for cover as she noticed the man bearing a weapon, not to mention the person who had shot him, who was probably still somewhere close by. She wasn’t entirely sure if the man was a threat to her in his current condition. She could always just wait till he was dead enough not to shoot her next.

Renirs: Get rid of that gun and I’ll come help you!

J Kader: Response?

She snorted annoyedly before tapping her combadge.

Renirs: =/\= Hey sickbay, Renirs here. There’s a guy with a hole blasted through his chest on Deck 11, near ::squints:: the Hazards Lab, better get him there. He was like this when I found him. =/\=

Any medical: =/\= Response =/\=

Renirs: =/\= Na-ah, I’m gonna keep going and find the other alties! =/\=

Any medical: =/\= Response? =/\=

J Kader: Response?
