((USS Artemis, deck 11, Main Shuttlebay, Cockpit of the USS Galaktoboureko))
Imril’s first (entirely self-appointed) task upon stashing their gear within the Galaktoboureko was to go back out into the shuttlebay, whip out their tricorder and scan the shuttle from the outside. In order to gain a perspective of the experimental sensor augmentations, and the systems which powered and controlled them, independent from the shuttle’s own diagnostic systems.
They trusted their fellow engineers who’d made the alterations, of course. But it didn’t hurt to take a second look over things. They found nothing to contradict the information on the padd which they had been provided by one of the crewman who’d worked the build.
The ensign walked a course around the shuttle as they examined it. As they did, they happened to be in the right places at the right times to see Doctor Sadar and Lt. Silveira enter the ship. And nodded respectfully to each as they did.
Silveira: I heard you could use a hand.
Morgan/Gnai: Response
Sadar: Oh! Uhh... H-Hello. I’m sorry, I didn’t expect-
Vailani: Response
Sadar: Vai-net!
Silveira: Looks like we have an interesting bunch here.
Imril happened to be re-entering the shuttle just as the Lieutenant said that.
Imril: I try not to be boring.
Morgan/Vailani: Response
Gnai: Response
Sadar: Y-Yeah, we’ll be ready to take off soon. Uhh... The sensors are reading green, but maybe Ensign Imril should do a final systems check before we take off? It would be a waste to go to Laoi III only to realize something’s wrong.
Imril: Aye, Doctor. I was just coming in to start that.
To the engineering station Imril went, and window after window of pre-flight screens.
Silveira dropped his backpack, momentarily causing the ensign to look away from their work.
Silveira: So, Lieutenant Sadar, what are we heading ourselves into?
Morgan/Gnai/Vailani: Response
Sadar: Well, there’s a few separate survey goals associated with our trip. ::gestures to the bunch of PADDs:: I have a project that I’m hoping to find some biological samples for, and I know the tactical department had some concerns regarding the interplay between the new sensors and the targeting arrays for the shuttle’s weapons systems?
Imril silently added the targeting systems to the list of systems that needed to be cross-checked against the new sensors. And shields, too, considering how intertwined their operations were with those of the weapons. Such was the nature of technical innovation.
Silveira smiled and tipped his head to Imril.
Silveira: Now that’s my language. And I assume I can count on your engineering skills Ensign Imril?
Imril: I expect so, Sir, yes. I wasn’t part of the team that upgraded the sensors, but I’ve reviewed the build notes. Everything looks pretty straightforward. These sensors draw a little more heavily on the shuttle’s power stores than the standard model for this class, partially to process the extra data. But nothing that will eat irreparably into the surplus generated by the engine core.
Morgan/Gnai/Vailani: Response
Silveira pointed to the piloting seat.
Silveira: Is there a designated pilot, or can I take the spot.
Sadar: Response
He turned and winked at the others.
Silveira: You will all be in good hands.
Morgan/Vailani/Gnai: Response
Silveira shrugged and headed to the pilot’s seat.
Silveira: A type eleven I only flew… Once. But they say it’s like riding a bike.
Imril gave a small smile to what they took as a joke.
Sadar: Response
Morgan/Vailani/Gnai: Response
Silveira laughed as he took the pilot’s position. He tapped in the controls and began the preflight checks.
Silveira: The expedition leader is Doctor Sadar, any complaints should be addressed to her.
Imril: Doctor, a question not a complaint. You said you’re planning to pick up biological samples. How are we set up for storing them?
Sadar/Silveira: Response
Morgan/Vailani/Gnai: Response
Imril: And how are you planning to test the targeting array?
Sadar/Silveira: Response
Morgan/Vailani/Gnai: Response
