Alex pulled down on the strap to her duffle, making sure it was secure across her shoulder. It was lighter than she expected it to be, but the truth of the matter is that there were very few personal effects that she cared to bring with her. And more than that, during their last counseling session aboard the Scimitar, the counselor had even suggested leaving two other mementos, which she had planned to bring, behind as well.
The point of this transfer was to cut old ties that seemed to have Alex stuck in the past. The hope was that she would be able to move forward both personally and professionally unencumbered by her sordid past. So she had packed light; anything else she needed could be replicated.
Silveira: ALEX
Her reverie was broken by her name. It would have been as easy for her to block it out as it was for her to block out other people’s thoughts, but she noticed something…sensed someone. She stopped and looked in the direction of the person she sensed.
Silveira: ALEX… HERE…
Her eyes searched through the crowd until they lighted on … Vitor Silveira. She made her way over, and her grasp on her strap loosened slightly. His face seemed to light up, and he opened his arms. While she smiled, her lips were pressed together. She held onto her strap with both hands now. He was willing to give her a hug - maybe even wanted to hug her. Her eyes betrayed a hint of sadness. Had circumstances been different, she would have gladly given him a big hug, but … she ... couldn’t, so she stood there and shrugged her shoulders.
Silveira: I saw your name on the roster and had to welcome you. It's good to see you. You look just the same.
Storm: And yet, I'm anything but the same woman you knew, but you, Vitor….It is …. really good to see you too. You look … good….younger that I’d expect?
She managed to release one hand from her bag and offer it to him. He took her hand for a short moment, then released it and took a step back.
Silveira: You're too kind. I had a run in with a Q, and he thought it would be nice to punish me, and deage me, so I could relieve an old trauma. ::He winked:: The brighter side I get to look almost seven years younger. You're ordered to report to Captain MacKenzie, right?
Alex laughed. Its genuineness surprised her.
Storm: I am. So ::She drew out the word.:: How’d you know about that?
He grinned. She remembered that carefree grin, and it brought an unconscious smile to her own lips.
Silveira: I also serve on the Artemis. In fact… I am your Chief.
Storm: You….::she pointed at him:: You, are my ::The same hand repositioned itself to her chest.:: chief?
Her eyes went from him, to the Artemis visible through the clear aluminum windows, and back to Vitor.
Silveira: Response
Storm: Oh no. ::Alex shook her head briefly, cast a lop-sided grin and lowered her eyebrows.:: I don’t mind at all. It's one less person to have to acclimate to.
Alex paused, smiled, shook her head again, and chuckled. For a long time, she felt like the Four Dieties had been punishing her. She had considered that perhaps she deserved it and tried to bear their displeasure patiently. This was truly the first good piece of news she had had in a very long time.
Silveira: Response
Storm: I don’t think I could have gotten better news on my arrival, Vitor. ::Alex repositioned her duffel on her shoulder.:: So you decided to come find me, since I’m a part of your department, or because you were curious about how I turned out?
Silveira: Response
