((Vailani Zoyara Quarters 1785 - Deck 3 - USS Artemis-A))
She nodded as she looked up and inside the mechanism that attaches the door to the frame. She mused that for all the advancements in technology the way they operate doors has probably not differed much in hundreds of years.
Vailani: I agree, you may have to replace the frame - do you know how to do that?
She looked upwards at the Andorian, she sensed that she may have upset the officer slightly and raised her own eyebrows and gave him a confused glance - had he not broken a perfectly fine door? Had he not lay down in her quarters? Had he not bumbled his way through the ship, clumsily falling at every possible moment?
To her, it was not a long stretch to think that perhaps he needed assistance in the repairing of the same door he had broken in the first place.
Tho’Bi: :: looks aside deep breath :: Yes. :: looks at Vailani :: I can fix a door frame.
Vailani: It’s good to know that you don’t just break them.
Tho’Bi set his Engineering Pack down, while holding onto his PADD which had been nestled against it. Blue fingertips keyed in a series of command inputs.
Tho’Bi: :: looking down at PADD :: Replacement frame will be here in a few minutes :: looks at Vailani :: I'll get on with removing the old frame.
She took a step back, crossed her arms and observed the engineer work. He knelt down and snapped open the grey lid of the Engineering Kit. First he freed his Engineering Tricorder from the grasp of its foam snug. Syncing it to the door, he inputted a sequence of commands.
A dull, protracted tone emanated from the door control panel, as the panel itself dulled out to grey.
Tho’Bi: :: looking down at Tricorder :: Door is locked open.
Vailani: The internal mechanism must have jammed into that position during the Orion attack.
He then popped the Hyperspanner out of its foam snug, stood up, and began to loosen the retaining bolts. As he worked, he spoke.
Tho’Bi: ::quietly:: Can I ask you something?
Zoyara sighed, when anyone had to ask for permission to ask a question it almost always meant it was going to be something personal or inappropriate.
Vailani: I suspect you’ll ask it anyway?
Tho’Bi: Response
While he was still working on the door, she listened as his question stumbled out. It wasn’t what she had expected.
Vailani: I’ve only read the preliminary reports from the Operations Team - are you asking for a performance review?
Zoyara found herself stumbling over her own words. This was venturing into the touchy feely Starfleet scenarios that she tended to avoid and now here she was outside her quarters, a jammed door and Tho’Bi removing the broken one. She could hardly make an excuse and leave - she wasn’t even in uniform!
Tho’Bi: Response
Vailani: I think the more important question is - how well do you think you did?
Tho’Bi: Response
