(( Elysium – Deck 6, USS Artemis ))
The trio of command officers sat in the Elysium recounting adventures
old and new. All things considered, this was MacKenzie’s happy place: on her
ship with some of the people closest to her. Starfleet captains weren’t
often afforded the luxury of friends – it was one of the loneliest jobs in the
galaxy, after all – but these three people had been through the mud and weeds
together.
Nicholotti: We found a zoo planet. Literally humans from every time period imaginable, all in their own 'exhibits'. Whoever set it up left a long time ago, and the barriers began to fail. That's when the SOS got out.
Her head lowered,
attention rapt listening to Nicholotti recall the story.
MacKenzie: That sounds awful.
Adea: Yes, totally.
Nicholotti: It was interesting to be sure. Got to meet a real caveman.
Addison sat back in her chair, allowing her back to sink into the plush
cushion.
MacKenzie: Are you at least enjoying the new boat for now? I’m sure the
thing has to be easier to parallel park than the Excal…
Adea:
Does it have that new ship smell?
Kali smiled but shook her head.
Nicholotti: It's very used, and smells of past missions. Didn't have time to get it detailed before we took her out. ::looking to Addison.:: And would you believe that parking it is far more trouble than it's worth. Totally going to just do orbits from now on.
Addison couldn’t help but guffaw.
MacKenzie: Noted: on the next ship, skip spending extra on the landing gear.
Adea: It’s weird to think - before I met the pair of you on the Res, I had only served on the Gorkon… Whereas you both had very varied careers. ::taking a sip:: Not that the Gorkon wasn’t varied…
Now, Kali raised an eyebrow.
Nicholotti: And you think you know
all about a person's history...
Addison offered a smirk and side-eye in Genkos’s direction.
MacKenzie: Perhaps too much,
in some cases.
She was sure the inference at a mutual love interest-turned-scumbag wouldn’t go
unfelt by the Betazoid.
Adea: Response
Kali shook her head.
Nicholotti: I still think some of my
favorite stories are from the Resolution. Some are from when I wore that green
collar as a second lieutenant, but far more are from our escapades.
MacKenzie: More than our fair share of close encounters… Our first run
in with CloQ… The discovery of the USS Unity from our first mission…
Adea: Response
Kali finished the wine in her glass, placed it on the table, and rested her hand on Genkos’s leg.
Nicholotti: Remember when they just told us all to be aboard and get on with it, without ever having properly met?
Kali grinned; Addison shook her head.
Nicholotti: Now look at us.
MacKenzie: The most patchwork group of derelicts you’ve ever seen, and
Starfleet says “good luck.”
Adea/Nicholotti: Responses
Now, it was MacKenzie’s turn to finish her wine and set her glass down on the
table. Once again, she sat back into the couch, crossing one leg over the
other. She offered a nonchalant shrug.
MacKenzie: I think we turned out alright.
Adea/Nicholotti: Responses
MacKenzie: You planning on making the Eagle an extended stay?
Nicholotti/Adea: Responses
