((Chief of Science’s Office- Deck 9, USS Artemis))
She hoped she hadn’t sounded too overconfident in herself as she told Jovenan about her skills and abilities, but it felt like there was so much riding on her being accepted and becoming a real part of the crew.
A smile played across her face as she adjusted herself in the chair, despite her worries, she had a good feeling everything was going to be okay.
Jovenan: Great! But we’re not expecting you or any of our officers to know everything from the get-go. There are frequent training sessions that all the departments run, and you can also ask for personal orientation from the senior officers at any time. I’d like to see you take part in those regularly. ::glimpse at the belly:: If you feel able to, of course.
Richards: I just want to show everyone I can do this. Pregnant or not, I have a lot to offer and I don’t want to let anyone down.
Oof. Her insecurities were showing and she could feel her face turning red. The emotional whiplash was almost impressive.
Jovenan: Of course! What you’ve told me and all the documents show me that you are a great scientist and already skilled in almost everything you need to know on the ship. ::pause, smile:: Just talk with the Sickbay personnel and find a pace that suits you.
Richards: Is there anything else you wanted to go over? When we wrap up here would you like to go grab a coffee and less professional chit chat? ::Pausing:: If you aren’t busy that is!
Jovenan: I guess we’ve covered everything important. I’ll send you all the necessary documents, and you can get to work as soon as possible. ::stands up:: Welcome aboard!
Once Jovenan stood, Sam followed suit and eased herself out of the chair.
Richards: Thank you. I’m excited to be here and be a part of the crew.
Jovenan led them out of the office and presumably headed towards somewhere they could get something to drink and catch up.
Jovenan: If it’s okay for me to ask… I don’t remember seeing that the last time we met. How far are you?
Richards: I had actually just found out last time I was here. Now I am about halfway through the pregnancy. Give or take a couple weeks. ::Shrugging:: The science behind hybrids can vary so much. Twins make it even more uncertain.
While interspecies offspring wasn't a new concept by a long shot, every pregnancy was different regardless. It seemed there was no real way of knowing precisely when they would be born.
Jovenan: And how are you feeling?
That felt like a loaded question. How was she feeling? There were so many ways to answer that, but didn’t want the conversation to get too heavy, so she kept it simple.
Richards: Now that I’m not sick all the time and I am getting settled into living here, I can finally focus on being excited and preparing for them to get here.
Jovenan: Response
She realized that it seemed like there was no real destination in mind for either of them as they slowly walked together.
Richards: I think Talos is getting excited too. ::Pushing her hair away from her face.:: We are taking it all day by day as we learn to live together. It’s uh, a new experience for both of us. :: Raising an eyebrow:: Brew Continuum?
Jovenan: Response
((Brew Continuum, Deck 3, USS Artemis))
The two women made their way to the coffee shop, made their orders and took a seat. Sam slowly sipped on her iced coffee and looked up at Jovenan.
Richards: So how have things been going for you since the last time we saw each other?
Jovenan: Response
There was something in her answer that made Sam curious. Instead of speculating, she bluntly asked.
Richards: So… Are you dating anyone?
Jovenan: Response
