((Cave, Rakantha Province, Bajor))

The dark, stagnant air was saturated by smells. The damp, mouldy stench had been there almost for the entire lifespan of the cave itself, but there was something new as well. The salty whiff of sweat, the pungent scents of burnt explosives and scarred flesh, and the bitter, metallic odour of blood.

Jovenan: =/\= Savel, Gnai! Beam us out the instant you can! Get the shuttle ready, we need to go to the closest hospital! ::pause, then cryingly:: Chevalier’s badly hurt! =/\=

She didn’t know if he was still alive. Chevalier hadn’t spoken anything and didn’t appear to react to what Jovenan was doing. Not that she had taken effort to verify that either; the darkness made it much more difficult to check his state, and if he was going to die that day, it was for the massive bleeding and internal injuries, not from something that would have taken Jovenan extra seconds to inspect right now.

Savel/Gnai: Response

Jovenan stood up. She was injured herself as well, but it was little compared to the man who had stepped on the mine and who had fallen to the ground as the bounding mine had scattered the shrapnel. Adrenaline alone kept her from falling to the ground as well, it was what stopped her from giving up.

Lifting Chevalier’s upper body from the ground, she threaded her arms under his armpits and around his body and began to pull. He gasped, much to her relieve, as it had been so far the only indication that he was still alive, though she couldn’t stop to think any of that. She couldn’t imagine trying to lift him up; not only was she injured as well, but he was also much heavier than she was, not to mention that she didn’t think such a move would do good considering the nature of his injuries.

Dragging his body along the floor of the cave, Jovenan noticed that one of his legs wasn’t coming along. Unable to think clearly or focus on the details, her mostly automatic, subconsciously chosen course of action was to lean in a little and pick the leg from the ground and place it on his lap so that it wouldn’t be left behind. Exhausted but determined to get him away from the cave, she continued pulling.

Jovenan: ::breathing heavily:: D- don’t do this, Jaseb! I’m… I’m gonna get you… Okay…

She wasn’t exactly sure of the safe route, any more. The transporter booster was her objective, and avoiding stepping on any further mines was something she knew she needed to do, but she couldn’t concentrate too much on. The darkness of the cave caused her anxiety, as if it were walls that were about to crush her. The only thing that broke that darkness was the shining light emitted from the closest functioning transporter device, and she needed to get there.

A seed of disbelief slithered into Jovenan’s mind. Why was she there? Why was she not on Rubicun, why was she not running along the ridge of the askers of Somian as the calm Lake Siven reflected the sun’s light and the warm summer breeze pushed from behind, laughing as a brother or a sister reached her in a chase… like she was meant to be? Why was she there, her eyes red and swollen from crying and a strange object poking through her shoulder, pulling a man, his severed leg on his lap, who she might have killed by her negligence? She should have stayed home, like God ordained…

Savel/Gnai: Response?

Jovenan raised her head. The transporter booster, it was right there. Had she made it?

Jovenan: =/\= Energize! Get us out! =/\=

Savel/Gnai/Chevalier: Response?

And, before Jovenan could feel despair as she waited the eternally long seconds to pass, she and Chevalier were engulfed in the familiar blue mist, and she felt her body getting lighter.

((Shuttle Kerynitis, Rakantha Province, Bajor))

The lights were bright when Jovenan and Chevalier materialized on the transporter pad in the Kerynitis. After a few blinks of the eyes, she turned to look around. Gnai and Savel were there, and some other people she assumed were Bajoran authorities, while Renirs had been taken to a bunk. Then, she looked down.

She felt like vomiting. Unfamiliar with combat, the times she had had to fight so far had been clean, phaser fire to stun or towards another ship. Never had she seen so much blood. The gruesome sight was nearly overwhelming to her unbraced mind.

Forcing her eyes off of Chevalier, she looked once more at the two Ensigns that had got her and Chevalier out of the cave. With crying, pleading eyes, she looked at them and made her order that sounded more like a request.

Jovenan: Get us all to a hospital. Please.

Savel/Gnai/Chevalier/Renirs: Response

((OOC: This ends the action in this scene! If you want, you can talk more about how and where we went for emergency care and how it goes, or maybe take a time jump and deal with the talks after that. Otherwise, you can treat this as the end of this scene!))
