Bip! The PADD leaning against his Engineering Kit chimed.  The Ensign hurried to pick it up and looked at the Alarm Message that had flashed up.

Tho’Bi: Oh! Bip! (beat) I have to go!

Vailani: :: at last :: I'd be interested to see your report once you've compiled it.

The Ensigns crouches down and stows the Tricorder back in the Engineering Kit; he then snaps shut and locks the kit case.  Case in one hand, PADD in the other, he stands up.

Tho’Bi:  If there’s any problems with the environmental systems just ::taps his communicator:: notify me and I’ll fix it.

Ship’s Computer (from Tho’Bi’s comms badge):  Designation not recognized.  Please repeat.

Tho’Bi: Disregard designation ::taps communicator badge off:: (beat) I should go.

Vailani: Please do … I mean you should get back to work. Those environmental controls won't fix themselves.

The young ensign makes for the door; but almost as soon as he has started moving, stops and turns.

Tho’Bi: ::standing to attention:: Lieutenant (beat) The… Review of Starfleet rank and protocols (beat) whenever you have the time.  I would welcome the opportunity to improve (beat) on my performance (beat) in that regard (beat) Sir.

The young Ensign came surprisingly close to sounding like a career Starfleet Officer, but fell at the last hurdle, picking himself up again, and proceeding to fall again.

Vailani: I'll send a schedule :: lock eyes with him :: There will be a test, come prepared.

The Ensign nodded.  And the bowed slightly.  Not knowing why he had bowed, he hurried to the door.  Arriving too early, he came to a sharp halt; smacking the engineering kit off the, as yet, unopened door.

Swoosh!  The door opened.  The young engineer rotated on his heels and made a kind of half grimace / half smile at the Lieutenant, before backing out of the room.

Swoo-clunk!  The door closed on the Engineering kit.

Zzzk-kkrrrk!  The door mechanism ground against the Engineering kit lodged lengthwise in the door.  The blue of an Andorian hand grasped one of the door edges and pulled it towards open.

Zzk-Zzk-Zzk-Zzk!  The door mechanism strained.  A small gap opened up between kit and door.  The Ensign rotated the Engineering Kit 90 degrees.

Swo-clunk!  The door slammed back down onto the Engineering Kit now widthwise in the door.  A pair of blue Andorian hands appeared in the gap above the kit.  Grasping one half of the door each, they pulled the door halves towards open.

Zzk-Zzk-Zzk-Zzk!  A gap opened up. The Engineering Kit dropped to the deck.  The hands disappeared.

Swo-Clunk!  The doors slammed back down onto the now grounded Engineering kit. 

Zzzzk-Zzk-Zzzzk-Zzk The door mechanism strained as the Engineering Kit rattled back and forth.

Riiiip! Swoosh!  With a ripping sound the Engineering Kit retreated through the door and vanished as the door finally closed.
